equilateral triangle without any angle measuring device

Post by the modern einstein »

Just folding robert lang's Gerbil from an equilateral triangle, and I was wondering if there was any way to mark one out without having to do it all with protracters and so on. Is there a way to fold the points to mark where you should cut it out, like folding the square from an A4 sheet of paper, or a way to mark waypoints with a ruler, so you just have to measure distance, and all the lines come together? I have searched it up, couldn't find anything, for those who love to rant about using the search function.
thanks for the attention to this.

There actually is a very simple way to get an equilateral triangle from a rectangle. I found the basic way to do it on Thoki Yenn's page. What you want to see is his parallelepiped model.

One other way to get an equilateral triangle from a square is explained by Eric Gjerde (sorry if i spelled his name wrong). Basically you fold the corner of the square to the 3/4 mark on the paper, with the crease starting on the 1/2 mark. Repeat on the opposite side to get another 60 degree line. Cut along the lines and cut off the excess at the bottom to get a triangle! Ill post pics if you need more explaining.

I understand all you have said, thanks for the help everyone. tryintofoldsumthin, I've done that pattern so many times, and never observed you could cut a triangle from it I'm beggining to wonder what's wrong with me.
