Re: have any of you sold origami?
well, looks like you need to start making your own paper. tissue paper + white glue + tin foil = tissue foil, tisue paper plus white glue (mixed with water) + tissue paper = double tissue
just to echo what others said, you are unlikely to ever get results you are happy with using copy paper. It is just not fun to fold. If you are realy in a pinch large brown paper bags can be nice to fold certain things.

Re: have any of you sold origami?
two words. TRACING PAPER. It's cheap, and you can buy a huge roll of it! Super thin, and good for insects, and other animals. Shuki Kato uses it all the time (in fact, he was the one who recommended it to me), and you don't need to prepare it! Instead of mc glue, you can use water, to hold layers together.
My etsy account. There isn't anything on it right now, so don't bother looking

Re: have any of you sold origami?
I think we're getting somewhat off topic here, so let's try to get back on track.
I once folded three models (a version of Montroll's husky and two of my own designs) and sold them all off for a total of $8.

I've had good luck using Origami in found art pieces. Not that I'm going to retire on it or anything...

Re: have any of you sold origami?
I would suggest selling seasonal pieces for relatively low prices. (ie- two dollar roses near valentines day).
Eat. Sleep. Fold Paper.
Re: have any of you sold origami?
I sold this at a family art show for $80. The gallery took 30%, though.
And OrigamiGeek, regarding your paper situation, what I would suggest is experimenting with what you can get around you... You might come up with something completely new.

yes. like paper bag foil, tracing Paper foil, kami foil (I never learned how to spell it correctly), double foil (It kind of fails though because the glue doesn't dry) and many more like news paper foil.
I have sold something for like $3.00 but the prison paid like $15.00 :O and did not want change :O

Re: have any of you sold origami?
I always tell myself I will but whenever I fold something, I end up loving it like a child and keep it
When you put such hard work into folding something, you can't really force yourself to sell it.
