This stuff is way expensive. For a pack of wallpaper glue (Metylan normal) I pay less then 5€ and it lasts years.
But back to your question: Yes you can use spray starch to size your paper.

I broke out the MC today. I still have a little over half of the 1lb container I bought back in 2004 at http://www.chemistrystore.com/Chemicals ... ulose.html . I also use the recipe from: http://www.metteunits.com/Backcoat.htm whenever I whip up a batch.

Make sure to use warm to hot water. MC doesn't mix with water when it is warm, but if you add it to cold water it creates a layer of gel around the majority of the unmixed material, so stirring it till the solution becomes colder will cause the MC to mix more evenly (and not turn into a gooey lumpy mess). Sometimes water quality can affect the mixture as well. I tried mixing up some in NYC at the OUSA convention using the tap water, and the MC did not want to mix well at all, so I had to get some bottled water (I spoke to another folder about this, I think it was Michael Lafosse, but he said he had the same problem before).

If you make the solution in a jam glass with lid, instead of stirring, you can just shake it. Far easier in my opinion. In my refrigerator there is always a very thick MC solution. If I need some MC I take out a small bit and water it down. In a closed container the thick solution in the refrigerator keeps fresh for years.
