I heard somewhere that, in order to have them do a better job of floating, you should rub candle wax on the bottom. I know very little about origami, so I thought I should ask you all. Would this be a good idea, to use candle wax? If not, then any other suggestions?

I think you'd have better luck making floating lilypads out of things other than paper...
Anyways. Candle wax, crayon, what ever. Just get it on the bottom of the lily pad without burning your house down. I think the easiest way is to take a generally transparent crayon and colour the underside.

I know it's Canadian tire, but it's an example.
