Seth Friedman's Cooper's Hawk

Just had a couple of questions before I start this. If you have folded it before, what was your starting square size and the resulting model size? And also is double tissue sturdy enough?

i did this with 35 cm foil. resulting model was ~ 14 cm in winglength, and ~ 11 cm from head to toe. only problem is in the final detailing of the talons, which is not a huge problem. a very nice model.

never tried with double tissue, sorry.

Double tissue is surprisingly strong. Whitefly has already shown it can be done with double tissue-that paper can hold up to a surprising amount of abuse.

Thank you all so much!
Mario, I'm glad I amuse you! :D

Bethnor, I found that post while searching for info about the sheet size. I took a look in the book and you're right...that step looks odd. I'm sure it will make more sense when I actually get to that step.

Whitefly, yours looks EXCELLENT. I'm very confident in the tissue's durability. I guess my concern is with the thickness, and how much the wings might droop. I just remember seeing Sara post up a photo of her Eagle by Hung Cuong Nguyen made of red double tissue, and it seemed to me that the wings drooped a little. Of course, the Hawks wings aren't quite so wide...

That's probably because I shaped it like that. I wanted to give the feeling of the eagle "flapping" his wings and reaching somewhere round the lowest point in that action. Hope this info will make you feel a bit more at ease about using double tissue. :)
