Re: what got you into origami?
This is a little bit random, but I had all-region compititions today and I was really nervous 'cause I was competing against 60 other trombones most of them a grade ahead of me. To calm my nerves I started folding icarus and when I tried out I got third chair!!!!!! I'M THE BEST IN MY GRADE AT TROMBONE!! and I owe it all to Hajyo Takashi and icarus.

Re: what got you into origami?
About 10 years ago I started folding origami and I have been ever since. It wasn't necessarily one specific instance that got me started.

Re: what got you into origami?
I think i was about in 2nd grade when we were learning how to fold a swan. I managed to fold the swan next we were learning how to fold the crane but i couldn't fold it so i gave up i later knew how to fold it. I stopped doing origami until my Junior year in high school i was looking at the lily and i folded it. My friends enjoyed it and encouraged me to make more so i went on Youtube and saw tutorials for various models after that I started to do origami again i'm improving little by little.

Re: what got you into origami?
it would be good for you then
i'm not sure what level I am, definitely beyond advanced or complex, but I wouldn't consider myself a master or anything.
I like alot of the models in that book, especially the seagull...
the models in there work really good with kami.

I was writing some homework and in geography book I saw an origami crane. So I left my homework, went to the internet and wikipedia to learn more about origami and from a video in there I folded a crane.

Re: what got you into origami?
I bought the game "Heavy Rain" for the ps3, inside was a little square piece of paper. While the game loaded on to my HD, they had diagrams to make a little bird from the piece of paper. Brilliant, I usually make myself a cup of coffee.... Very simple, so I started searching for more.
I still can't do really complex models, hardest things I made are the coopers hawk by friedmann, (destroyed it, the back ripped the first time, my paper was to thick, second was from craft.) and maybe kamiya's wild boar and komatsu's giraffe.
Now I'm making my own tissue foil paper.

Re: what got you into origami?
Oh fun topic. It was roughly 27 years ago in school I had a Japanese friend. At the time I knew the fortune teller and paper airplanes and he showed me a little camera , I think out of a blitz base you press the back and it flashes (the two flaps popped open) and with that I was hooked. I later found a harbin book that had me making birds and such. At a young age and being in school with ADD I always had one resource available no matter what class I was in to fidget with. Paper! By high school I was making crabs and lobsters from origami sea life I at the time had memorized. Many teachers have my origami sitting on a desk or on a wall resigned to the fact that the could not keep me from folding lol. But many of them supported my art and to them I say thank you much!

When you were three? That is a quite hard to believe. When I was three, I think I was just starting preschool, if that. I didn't even know what China was when I was three (I think).phillipcurl wrote:for me it was when i was about three, i was obsessed with chinese culture (i was a smart kid) and my mom bought my a book by John Montroll called "Birds in Origami", and i made every model in that book thousand of times.

Re: what got you into origami?
i may have been 4. i was homeschooled, i asked my mom, and she told me it was because someone at a restaurant gave me a paper crane and i wanted to know how to make it really bad, so she bought me a book "bird in origami" by john montroll. it didn't have the crane in it (i think) but it had a lot of other really cool bird models in it.

Re: what got you into origami?
My parents got me an origami dinosaurs book initially, but i found it extremely hard, and it was one of those books that had printed paper with all the folds in black on it, so it was not "true" origami and i never got into it. After a while i saw Kade Chan's firey dragon on youtube and knew i had to fold it. I have been hooked ever since!
