Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
Immeasurable thanks to Bernie and Nicolas for including this extraordinary owlet model in Bernie's new book !
I believe that Bernie has imbued a fantastic sense of whimsy and personality to his owlet , thus far unmatched .
The resultant appeal brings to mind a simularity to Eric Joisel's models , which, of course, is no small feat !
I look forward to folding both the single and double beak versions, as well as attempting to vary the leg poses .
What remains is for myself, and others, to adequately prepare ourselves to fold this owlet with the competence, care and heart that it deserves .
Were I to have a wish, it would be for Michael LaFosse to develop a paper to properly compliment this model. I can only dream ...
For me, this marks the culmination of year's worth of anticipation !
My most sincere appreciation to Bernie and Nicolas !

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
Two new models revealed :
Red-eyed Frog
http://www.origami-shop.com/modeles-ori ... -2055.html
- Level: Complex
- Diagram: 10 pages (88 steps)
- Time to fold it: 2 h

Leaves
http://www.origami-shop.com/modeles-ori ... -2056.html
- Level: Complex
- Diagram: 3 pages (18 steps)
- Time to fold it: 30 mn

This ins't the real leaf describe in the book because this one has a rectangle format. But I like very much this photo showing how pleat-folds are used to 3D shape the leaf
And below, this is a draw by Bernie, showing his frogs in love using the leaves in a tropical diorama. I wanted to share with you this picture includes in the book to show you how Bernie take attention to details in his draw. Among all the diagrams I saw in my life, Bernie clearly draw the best and most impressive picture. His drawings are real Artworks and often I'm just happy watching only his diagram.

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
Words alone cannot express my gratitude to Bernie and Nicolas for including the red-eyed frog in Bernie’s new book !
It is certain to become a highlight model within the collection of other treasures .
I have some reservation as to how many of us are capable of folding this model adequately, but I do know that we all may greatly appreciate its’ beauty never the less .
It is obvious that an extraordinary amount of artistry, thought and compassion has gone into the design of this model and the accompanying flora .
One can only admire the exceptional mischievous capacity of Nicolas to entice us , knowing full well that an interminable wait lies ahead , justifiably requiring us to develop a competency for patience.
While Bernie’s book will be a fantastic asset to the world of origami, I hope that the possibly greater message of protecting our biosphere, ecosystem, respecting the world’s flora and fauna, curbing our conspicuous consumption of energy and resources, improving ecological sustainability, and opening our eyes & minds to our detrimental impact as evidenced by bio indicators is not lost to each origami enthusiast .
One may “ google” any of the above topics for a worthwhile exploration into better understanding and appreciating the world that we live in .
As we all know, there are times that we need to push away from the folding table, to get outside and appreciate nature and our environment .

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
The problem is that about 90% of what's said about protecting the environment is a scam. So-called "global warming" is caused simply by this: The sun rotates around the center of the universe, doesn't it? It's just moving into a warmer part of the universe, where the climate is generally warmer. It happened 300 million years ago with the dinosaurs, and there were no humans to cause it.
But the book looks like it's going to be awesome--that much I agree with.

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
To Baltorigamist;
I believe that you are misinformed on several levels.
The earth revolves around the sun, the sun revolves within the Milky Way , our galaxy ( about once every 230 million years) .
The temperature of the universe is approx. 2.725 +/- degrees Kelvin , with slight variation attributed to cosmic microwave background radiation . Relatively, we are already existing in the warmer portion of the universe.
I fear that you should study cosmology instead of cosmetology, and study astronomy ( or quantum physics) instead of astrology .
None of which, by the way, are necessarily relevant to my point that Bernie's book may encourage thought about ecology .

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
Nicolas can you let us know what software/medium Bernie is using to create those drawings? Also, is he using a tablet with a stylus or just plugging away with a mouse?
It's very impressive, I'd love to know so I can try it out. My drawing capabilities are good on paper, but have never made the translation onto the computer that I know I'm capable of.

Reply by Bernie Peyton for Bass :
""Thank you for the compliment. I use Freehand on a very old Mac laptop attached to a big screen. I use a mouse with one button. However old fashioned that is, I find it easier to draw the illustrations with the mouse than with a tablet. The reason is I can anchor the critical points with mouse clicks and then bend the line between these points the way I want to. You can do this while you are drawing the line between your anchor points with the benzier curve drawing function. Every time a line curves sharply I anchor the line with a fixed point before the tight curve.
There are two things I do that are not found in most origami books. I use less straight lines in my diagrams. There is always a bit of a curve in the paper after every fold. I can't make my models look like the steps in most diagrams. So I draw them the way I fold them. Sometimes it looks a bit messy. I want people to know it is OK for your model to look a bit skewed after a step. My models are 3D, sometimes early in the folding process. So I felt pressured to develop a drawing style that reflected that. Consequently I use a lot of shading to give the model the proper depth. Almost every surface area after the first dozen steps is a gradient, not a solid color. And I throw in a bunch of shadows to help people see the difference between layers. I leave it to you to tell me if I succeeded, or if a simple drawing would have expressed steps better. I am very open to criticism."
Best, Bernie"

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
You are right. I wanted to update the topic with one photo each week.... Too busy. I'm sorry.
I'm actually working on the last steps of the book :
All Black and white diagrams pages have been fixed and proof-read.
Some colors photos need will be done yet during august
I'm translating foreword by Robert Lang.
I'm working on the cover which will be different from the one I already publish to announce the book.
I will try to post new photos here soon and regularly
I plan to finish the book for end of august and print it at the beginning of september for a publication in october. Of course, as usual, it might appear delay.

Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
Thank you for the reply Nicolas. It's great to know that this awesome book is almost ready!
Re: Yet another Nicolas Terry book
The diagrams themselves look like a work of art! All of the books from Nicolas Terry are my favorites. I am excited about this one. The previous books are clearly printed, well bound and the instructions are quite precise for advanced models.
I just wish they were distributed more thoroughly. The shipping time from France to USA is a problem. However, I have found my dealings with Origami Shop to be very accommodating and personal. If large paper comes folded, it is always a precise crease where you are likely to make one anyway. That attention to detail would likely be lost if out of his hands. So I guess I should shut up and be thankful for having such a wonderful source for advanced origami diagrams.
