i don't understand this lurve for the zoanoid dragon. of course it is impressive as a design, but the dragon art off of which it is based has to be one of the ugliest dragons ever drawn. aesthetically, both kato's "simple" and western dragon are infinitely more pleasing to the eye.

please become more careful with what you saying or writing about an origami master like dr. lang! he's a pioneer of modern origami and i'm quite sure that shuki kato does respect him as well as other masters, too.
if you're going to visit my little flickr_gallery, please leave a comment - a critical one is welcome, too, if necessary: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57625237@N02/

smite you with his mathematical powers

I know what it's like for someone to do that to you. It isn't nice.

Once again guys, Robert Lang is my favorite origami designer of all time :) I was saying that in a rather joking way. I am very sure he could fold the zoanoid dragon with no trouble :)

Of course, all this doesn't mean Robert Lang wouldn't be slightly challenged making the zoanoid dragon. He'd be challenged in a good way, but he'd be able to make it.

I know what you mean about the zoanoid dragon being ugly. Isn't that the point? Isn't it meant to be intimidatingly ugly in some way? Some one should ask Shuki.

i agree. the dragon it is based off of is rather ugly, but i think that is the point. to draw attention, or soemthing like that.

You don't really notice the ugly when you realise it's one sheet of paper. If you don't do origami, this is even more so.

I still find it suprising how mechanically crisp this dragon's body shape is, and it is still ugly. What makes it ugly?
I would say the teeth and the rest of the face.

I wouldn't say 'ugly'. Menacing is a much less offensive term for it. :)

Well (with no idea whatsoever) yeah, i think.
@cowburger, i agree with menacing, but i think it's aethsetically intimidating, if you want ugly and menacing rolled into one, as in ways it is both.

i have not talked to him lately, but i believe he is. remember, diagamming is hard and painstaking, plus his models are peer with Kamiya's. it will take a long time. last time i talked to him, he was planning on releasing the book sometime late this year or sometime in 2013.
