Since I got some good response on the 'animals that haven't been done yet' topic, and have recently been going trough all the pages of wikipedia of the subject of mythilogical creatures, I thought it would be nice to start a 'Mythical creatures that haven't been done.... yet' topic. Again the goal is to get some inspiration to design something new and learn something about the creatures in the proces, and give people the honor to be first designer of a...

So feel free to post the name of the creature and if possible a (link to) a picture.

I'll just post the first thing since I started this. After reading this:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10268&p=110724&hili ... rn#p110724
It is about the unicorn of Kamiya but with scales, I searched the internet and found this Mythilogical Creature
Qilin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qilin
And made this model (Couldn't do the scales but it's a start)

At your local library, in the childrens' section most likely, they will have a fairy tale section or a few non-fiction books on religions or creatures. As someone who works at a library, I find this extremely useful in getting information on the various creatures that were said to inhabit this world.

The origami world I find has covered most of Asian mythology, but Native American and aspects of the Indian culture seems for the most part untouched.

Don't remember seeing a chimera being done, but I have one in the works. (Yes, it has all three heads.)

John Montroll has a nice Chimera in "Mythical Creatures and the Chinese Zodiac in Origami". Also, Kamiya has done a Quilin some time ago, aka "Ki Rin" http://folders.jp/g/1999/9916.html

Also, I'd recommend the "Element Encyclopedia of Magical Creatures" for mythology enthusiasts, its over 700 pages of mythological creatues, the "A" section alone is over 40 pages. Dragons, Unicorns, and the like are pretty much the only things tapped. There are many Yokai out there that haven't been folded, as well as Greek creatures. African folklore probably hasn't been touched much either. It also depends on if you count known animals that used to be considered myth/magical in with the lot, such as the okapi, giant squid, aardvark, etc.

Kinda of a messy post origamigeek  But it where a chimera, water dragon, minotaur and a pangolin.
Chimera
has been lots

Water dragon
there are a couple. I found this one: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6195/611 ... 8392d7.jpg especially nice.

Minotaur
has been done by Kamiya, if I'm correct there are diagrams in one of the convention books

Pangolin
Not really is mythical creature. Because it is real animal. Joisel made this incredible scaled model

I believe this one of the pieces I have ever seen

That's an impressive list of demons. I just took a quick look. I've seen alot of the names of the demons in different videogames. Didn't know they most likely dirived from this book.

Doesn't look too hard. Maybe Mark Leonard's Animal Base with some grafting.

yes but you would need more the tail the same size as the body and hands on the tail and the fangs DB
