Software for solving crease patterns

Post by easysid »

Is there a program that can solve crease patterns into a flat base? Any information about someone working on something like this?

Robert Lang mentions in ODS that the problem of deciding flat foldability of a crease pattern is NP hard. So the task isn't easy, but even a crude program running slowly would be faster than figuring out the folding sequence by oneself.

You should try 'oripa', you have to put all the mountain and valleys in and then the program comes up with a folded base. :)

Well, that is unfortunate, not unexpected though. However I am quite sure that the folks at OrigaMIT must be working on something like this. Its a too obvious thing not to think of. And besides, its a challenging and a large project. Quite well suited to be taken on.

this is an interesting idea I enjoy programming and I want to program something for the origami community I was working on an art program for diagramming but it is not going very well so I think I might try taking on this as a program. :D
