Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was a way to wrap presents origamicaly. I really don't want to use tape. It's ok if it isn't a square, just no tape. Thanks.

I'll be glad to give you an idea about how to do that but I would need a couple of days cause I'm a bit occupied right now. Is that ok by you?

The origami wrapping procedure isn't mine, I'll have to look for the origamist's name. What shape does the present have? The procedure only works on shapes like books.

Let me know if this works for you :).

Ok, the idea is by Sy Chen. You can find his pictures here: https://plus.google.com/photos/11671364 ... 472b2981ab#

There are only six pictures. Start backwards, from #6 to #1, to get the idea. I hope it helps! If it does, would you share a photo of the wrapped present in the thread that Razzmatazz mentioned:

Hmmm... I tried it, but it didn't really work. Can you explain that first picture, and when you close the sides? I got how to attach the two ends together in the second step. Thanks.

Ok, I'll try to help you out a bit more. Would you please let me know the dimensions of the gift: height, witdh, and length? That way I can try to give you an idea of the initial size of the rectangle and the rerences for the first steps.

Sorry, had to wrap the one, but I still want to know how to do it. To me it looks like its pleated, and you insert the edges into eachother. Then I get lost. I did it origamicaly though. I made it like a piece of candy. Hardly took any skill, but get, not tape. :)

I would love to see that!

I ended up inventing my one version of origami gift wrapping. I wanna make photo-diagrams explaining how to fold it. If you agree, I would love for you to test the draft. What do you say :)?

I'll teach the technique by wrapping a cassette in it's case with a letter size paper, but once you understand the process you can adapt it to gifts of other sizes.

I had not noticed last night, but today upon a closer study of my version I discovered it's just a variation of Sy Chen's. So I can't just make photo-diagrams of it nor can I present it in Neorigami, since the blog is exclusively for original designs and not variations. I was originally thinking of uploading the photo-diagrams there.

So sorry about that. If Sy Chen agrees, I think I'll send them for next December's Mini Neo issue... we'll see. But I will use my variation for a Christmas gift and I'll show it in the other thread soon :).
