Hi,

I'm taking a course in product design. In my homework for this Friday I need to look for ten daily problems: "things that annoy us, cause us extra effort, time, money, or discomfort..." like the teacher said. Bear in mind that they must be problems we actually have (so it can't be "the homeless need shelter" since you and I do have a home) and it can actually be solved through our medium: folded sheets of some -hand foldable- material.

I think it's a real fun project but I must confess I'm drawing a blank here! Can you share with me the problems you have that follow this criteria?

I completely agree! The final exam of my course has to be something like that and I think I will probably have to draw upon a technique like that instead of "pure" origami. Unfortunately, since that microscope already exists we aren't looking at a daily problem here but already a solution. Know what I mean?

So what problems can you all think about that follow the criteria I mentioned? Hey... this question actually turns you into my "potential customers" .

Sometimes I find myself in need of a box, and origami can help with that.

Well, there are a few problems that could be solved with paperfolding. For example if you'd fold a letter into its own envelope for posting you'd save 50% of the paper used.

Once I folded a book with over 50 pages out of one sheet of paper, but when I need a notebook, I won't use this technique, it's to much work.

To return to the theme of medicine, what about a tick remover that lets you easily pull them out including their head.

Not solved with paper but a couple of weeks ago I helped my dad re-felt his shed roof and I insisted on him letting me fold the corners (he wanted to cut the felt to make it fit).

Damn, those inside reverses were neat...
