Landmark Troubles

Post by valerite »

I can't find the landmark to the stalk eyed fly model I'm currently trying to design. Here is a rough sketch of the crease patter that I made with Inkscape, which is not precise enough to actually fold from.

The shaded areas are the places that I need landmarks for. Any help is appreciated! :)

the reference points seem to be based off of simple angle bisecting. i'll try to get a picture of the divisions up by tomorrow

Fold the bottom edge up to the main diagonal, and that's the lower point on the side edges. And it looks like the rectangles on the outside are silver ratio (1:sqrt2), so bisect the inner blintz folds in one quadrant (as if you were folding a blintzed bird base). The 22.5deg lines will intersect at the edge of the vertical center graft.

Of course, all this is based on the assumption that the horizontal line is at the midpoint of the side edges.
After the fall, we rise.

I tried out what you are saying, and sadly it doesn't work. I think I actually did try that same landmark myself a while ago :P

The highlighted quadrant isn't radially symmetrical (I think) because the of the gusset I've drawn and the horizontal line is not half way. Does this help? I'll hunt around for a landmark some more.

Eep this is harder than I thought!

Sorry for double post

I remade the entire crease pattern, with molecules as grayscales for maximum accuracy. Mainly self explanatory.

Thank you DJOrigami! =D>

After a bit of test folding, I found my landmark was actually wrong.

Model picture coming *soon* Base complete though, more than half way there :)
