so....browsing the interwebs the other day i stumbled upon these things called emulators. they allow one to play nintendo, supernintendo, sega, playsation 1+2, gameboy, DS, etc etc etc......all from your android based device (phone or tablet). thinking to myself.....i know nothing about coding.....but...if they can put a PS2 or nintendo DS game on your android phone.....how come they cant put ORIPA or ref finder or treemaker? surely they would be less complicated than a video game port....right? see i dont know....so....my question/challenge is......can someone out there who folds paper and is also computer savvy make a port for these programs for android devices? i would love to be able to use oripa on my tablet. even ref finder or treemaker on my tablet would be AWESOME.....so........somebody....anyone smarter than myself.....do the origami world a huge favor. take one for the team.

Robert Lang has generously made the source codes for Ref Finder and TreeMaker available under GPL.
However, it might not be that simple/straightforward to convert to the Android (or Mobile) platform.

The first hurdle would be to update the source codes to compile under the Android SDK platform. The source codes are in C++, and it uses a couple of 3rd party libraries (wxWidgets). If those libraries are not available in Android SDK, then those libraries would have to be ported to Android as well.
But even if somebody manages to do this, he/she will be faced with an even bigger hurdle ----- the user interface.

Both applications, especially the TreeMaker application, have their UI's optimized for KBD + Mouse operation. These kinds of operations don't translate very well to touch + gestures. This will definitely need some rework to make useful under a phone/phablet/tablet interface.

Oripa on the other hand looks promising! Its code is also available under GPL. It was developed in JAVA. Might be easier to port to Android.
And the UI might also be easier to adapt to touch/gesture vs. TreeMaker.

Any volunteers? :)

Everything seems to be Windows/I/pad..I-phone..I heard there were apps used by architects and draughtsmen where you could import your crease pattern and get the reference points AND a calculate the grid spacing.which helps with Treemaker type c.ps...i only have Android as well but need help in setting the box pleating.....Wolfram have a range of applications that deal with the branches of algebra but a you pay£ 3.+ to plot a line...also your degree of inclination might be translated into decimals...or use single letters a. x and y to show lines...

I just downloaded this and it's great, very easy to use. I've been wanting a good free crease pattern app for my phone, and this is perfect :D
Highly recommended.
