i used to have an origami book but i can't remember what it was called although i think it was by Nick Robinson (i could be wrong) which had a japanese style drawing of a man sitting cross legged, tossing squares of paper into the air and as they ascended, they turned into origami cranes, which became 'real' birds. i really badly want this picture as a tattoo on my forearm, but as i say, i can't remember what book it was in. does anybody know the picture and book i'm after?

That picture is in some book by Rick Beech. I think it's called Complete Origami, but I may be wrong.

The woodblock print is called "A Magician Turns Sheets of Paper to Birds" and it's been reprinted in several origami books. You can also find it online.

before you put the pic that Brimstone provided, know that the chinese/kanji characters on it is reversed (left to right). I think this was made for a stamp. hope you didn't get the tat yet.

Well you could always say it was that way so you could read it when looking at yourself in the mirror...

Or you could blame it on the person who tattooed you.

wouldn't they have to draw it backwards anyways? so when they flip the paper to transfer it from the paper to your body the image is correct?

Some chinese words are better written backwards.... like in caligraphy.

got my tat - i decided to get it without the lettering anyway because I don't know what it says and i couldn't be doing with people asking me what it said and me having to tell them i didn't know - anyway - here's a pic of it, still red, still sore - enjoy
to be honest, i don't really like the birds at the top, but the rest of it rocks!!
