I am assuming that you've already practiced the techniques as given in Michael LaFosse's books ...
No better learning experience than diving in & getting yours hands wet & coloured .
First attempts may be uninspiring.
Most probably, improvement after trial & error.
By the way , wet boxes & drying racks are fairly easy to make. A little ingenuity goes a long way ...

Thanks for the clarification, you're exactly right , of course !
While I have the two LaFosse books in front of me, must have had a momentary brain freeze , to not list them.
( Happens all too frequently ...)
I might mention, ( and will, in fact ) that Michael and Richard also have video DVDs that show paper making and back-coating as part of the instruction for the frog, as well as the koi, maybe others.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but since my post belongs here I think, I didn't make a new thread.
I am really interested in this thing at the moment, and I think I can easily get everything that I need. except one thing. Pulp. Yep, the stuff you use to make paper. I cannot find it ANYWHERE. Well, I saw someone in the internet selling some kind of pulp on America, but because one pack of pulp had a weight of around 10-20 kilos, (don't remember anymore) the shipping to Finland would cost a lot more than the pulp itself. Preparing my own pulp would be even more expensive, since a beating machine for the pulp costs around 1000 €.
So. If anyone here has made his/her own paper, I have a question: Where did you get the pulp from?

I haven't bought any pulps yet but here are some pages that I found that sell pulps:

I actually took some machine made papers and put them in a blender. Instant pulp. They sell pads of plain colored washi at art supply stores here. I just put several pages in the blender, along with a piece of very heavily dyed (and acid free) scrapbooking paper for coloring. It came out fairly well, as can be seen below.

Thanks for the tips! I will check those links
Actually, I've got good news. I have found a shop in Finland that has a Hollander (the pulp beating machine). So, now I'm thinking of buying some beaten pulp that has been dried (that doesn't weight as much as wet pulp of course), and then send it to the shop to beat it again. I've read some information on the internet. on the internet and this seems to work quite well.

That was my first attempt so due to some experimentation the thickness varied. I never achieved a true tissue thickness, but several of the sheets were the thickness of average kami. Some of them I made thicker for wet folding ( a hair thicker than TANT, if you have used that) and some extra extra thick for the covers of some stab-bound journals I was making. How thick did that paper become, Frumious?

hey, you know how michael laffose makes origamido paper with abaca plants and cotton and is really expensive and you can only find instruction in 2 of his books? well, i did a bit of reasearching, and combining with the link on how to make a frame, i think the results will be, you guessed it, origamido paper (i think
)!
