Hi all! This is my first time on this forum and I am in desperate need of some help. I have been doing origami for years and need to make an art project for my latin class. It is due ON Sunday and I am confused on several parts of it. The model is an origami phoenix by Eileen Tan (diagram here: http://spinflipper.com/origami/diagrams/pV2.pdf). The BEST way to help would be to make a video of you making this and send it to me so I can figure it out. I have tried to send an email to the website owner but no email address works so I don't know what to do. These are the problems I have had so far:

* 4 to 5 because when I pleat the origami I always end up with the little 1/8ths from step 3 on the outside but they are not diagramed.
* 5 to 6 because even if I mountain fold the little 1/8ths in step 3 there is a extra paper from step 2 not diagramed.
* 16 is the model flipped over?
* 17 the model does not look like the one I have made as the edges are not the same
* 18 to 20 I have looked up what crimping is but don't think I can do it here and these steps still confuse me. I am stuck here and have not proceeded any further.

Here are some photos of the first 5 steps... the reason you are having problems with latter steps might be because you did not complete the first 5 steps correctly.

Here are some photos:

Step 1 (easy)

Step 2 - folding the corners up 1/8th of the way

Step 3 - mountain folding 1/8th of the edges back

Step 4 - you are pleating toward the center in 1/4ths, which is not the same creases that you used to fold over 1/8th of the edge

To get to step 5. Pleat like so:

Now repeat that on the other side.

Yes, step 16 is the model turned over.
For 17, you did one of the previous steps incorrectly, or maybe your folding was not as accurate and clean?

I get all the way to 17 now but and it looks like the model but I am not sure if I reverse folded the model to the correct point. Then, I am not sure what a "crimp" is (I looked it up and it was not possible in this model it seemed) for step 18. Step 17-22 is a blur for me. Here are pictures of what I have now:

I apologize for a mistake i said earlier: step 16 is not the other side of the model, it is just showing that the model looks like at that point, becuase the previous steps showed what it looked like under the flaps.

Step 17 (which i believe u have done correctly) Heres the view of how the flaps look

Step 18 (again i think you have it correct) It is an outside reverse fold... she should probly re-label that step...

Step 19: The crimp (you do not need to crimp twice that is a mistake that the step is repeated twice i believe)
It is basically a mountain fold and a valley fold, but at an angle. Almost like a pleate but the you can see that the point becomes straightened with the rest of the model.

Ok. I got up through 19 and am now on 20. BTW Thanks for all of the help so far, I really appreciate it! I have been folding on and off for years and try to include origami into my projects or other parts of life

. Once I finish this model I will post a video or series of pictures of a simple bird that I have yet to find in a book or on the internet. It flaps its wings, takes less than 15 steps and uses the waterbomb base. Here is what I have now for the phoenix:

Once I get this (20-21) I predict getting to 27 or farther as it does not look that hard and I'll see if I get that step when I get there! Thanks so much again!

Well the next 2 steps are the exact same reverse fold you did in step 18 just at two other points. Steps 20-23 are jus two more outside reverse folds

Ok. I have looked at the reverse fold and tried to do it several times but it does not ever come out looking like the diagram. It always has the beak/ wing part in a different direction the the diagram shows it should be in for 21. I hope I can finish this by Sunday!

Even with the pictures I still cant get step 21 to look just like you have it (I know its side ways

). Once I get that one I think I understand the following steps. I am still here:
