2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity, and a lot of interesting projects are going on under this theme. For example, the Phylomon project:

So here's an idea - how about a gallery of biodiversity, origami style?

Photos would be community contributed, and organised according to their taxonomy. It would be fascinating to see which animals/plants are well represented in origami, and which are not (and would give origami designers possible ideas to work on).

Anyone interested in working on such a project?

Would a search on flickr for a certain origami species not do the same thing?

Yes, a search on flickr would work, but it's not a place where you can simply browse at random. I'm thinking something similar to this:

I like the idea of having a "central" database of photos!

Origamidatabase is a central database but is geared more to indicate where to find diagrams for specific models.

Having a place to search for photos is really nice!

It won't be photos of all possible models, but only of biological organisms that exist on Earth. That means no unicorns or dragons.

Well, unicorns, dragons and many fantasy subjects are somewhat easy to find... maybe because almost everyone ask about them!
Biological organisms... well, only when it comes to those amazing insects and insect like. In any way, I still want to help on such kind of project...

Nevertheless, suppose the project is a success, perhaps after having a good base, expand to other subjects! No?
