Best Paper for Kawasaki Rose?

doodlebug (yes, I read the FAQ!)
Curious what paper people have used to get the most realistic (or at least non-paper looking) roses? I've been practicing with normal origami paper (one sided), but they hardly look anything other than paper.
I read a couple threads where people used MC treated unryu - what do people think of this? Is it hard to use/fold? See rose below folded by xaoslord.

Would appreciate suggestions on paper and pictures of the rose if possible. Thank you all!
PS. Was hoping to create a dozen red (or pink?) kawasaki roses for valentines day.
