hi, i was at the dollar store the other day and saw some packaging paper in a bin labeled kraft paper. since i never actually used kraft paper, i decided to buy some. but when i tried to fold it, it could not hold a crease worth crap, when i was done with the model (i was folding kamiyas cerberus) it was extremely thick and flimsy, it wouldnt hold its shape, and it was extremely rough. i dont know if packaging paper and kraft paper are the same. was what i was folding with really kraft?

i've stated this before, but "kraft" paper is actually a very heterogeneous product. apparently, nicolas terry sold some which was very good, but has since stopped. apparently many folks here have had good results with "duo-finish kraft" that you can purchase off amazon. but in general, there is going to be a little "buyer beware."

Well, you bought it in a «dollar» store after all . Maybe the quality of that paper isn't as good as kraft found in paper supply stores. Kraft isn't the best origami paper for sure, but I don't think it's nearly as horrible as you make it out to be. It's at the very least better than folding with kami...

I disagree. my kraft paper has around 37g/sqm and is excellent for folding complex models. but its mostly useless for shaping. if you have to proof fold something, kraftpaper is an excellent choice but if you'd like to display something, you should take for instance foiled paper.

Kraft paper is generally quite rubbish. It doesn't look good for most models and it's a pain to shape it. I only use Kraft for models that don't accumulate many layers or when I'm practicing a model.

37g/m² kraft can indeed be quite useful, but compared to many other types of paper it just isn't the right paper to use.

for a very long period in my folding live, kraftpaper was my first choice... foiled and unfoiled. and I still think its a very good paper for folding :)

since you didn't enter a real location in your profile its pretty hard to give good advice. you could possibly live in texas, prague or tokyo.
I bought my kraftpaper at a wholesale dealer in germany. still got a big role left :)

maybe you should check wholesale dealers in wherever you live.
