Origamido and Hanji Papers

Hi All -

I've been poking around in the archives of the forum seeking these answers but did not stumble across them, so my apologies if this inquiry duplicates one someone else has asked long ago! I've been playing with unryu and lokta papers, and I'm interested in trying Korean hanji (the colors look smoother than unryu) and the famed origamido papers, too. I have been wholly unable to find anyone selling plain color, large sheets of hanji anywhere on-line and am curious if anyone knows of a source...? As for the origamido papers, I know they come from Michael LaFosse's site and that they sell quickly, but on the site I can't even find a location for paper listings or sales! So for those, my question is: does a page for the sale of origamido paper only appear when some is available? Or is there some other way of being made aware of when the paper becomes available? Thanks much for anyone and everyone's help!

Well i dont know about the hanji papers... but as for the origamido, you can call or email Michael LaFosse and ask about the paper.

i emailed him several weeks ago and this was the response i received. I hope it answers your questions:
Yes, we do sell our surplus handmade papers. We prefer to sell our paper in
person, to ensure that the customer will select the best sheets for their
purposes from what we have available. We have mailed papers to artists, mostly
to those with whom we are familiar and who have worked with our papers
before--we know what they like and we can select the paper for them. However,
we do sell to others by mail, if we have sheets on hand that we feel will suit
their project.

We only have sheets that measure 16 by 20 inches at this time. We do not expect
to be able to make larger sheets for at least a year, since we are still trying
to make our Hawaii plans complete. We do have an assortment of colors and
thicknesses. Each sheet is $8.00. Shipping is a flat fee of $6.50. We accept
most major credit cards; we only ship to US addresses.

I don't know about Hanji either, but I have purchased "Frog paper" from Origamido. The qualities are excellent, made specifically for wet folding.

You can also call them to ask for more info about their current batches; there was a phone number on the Web site, but I don't know if it is up to date.

Not Yet available. Maybe in some days I Hope
It's not one sheet by buyers, but one sheet per color. In other words, you can order many sheets but each sheet with a different color because the quantity is really limited, particularly for interesting color like brown.

Hi All! -

Thanks so much for the info on origamido paper...I will be patient until I can either encounter come in person or (if/when you get it, Terry!) buy some! As for the hanji paper, some more poking around on-line led me to this site: http://www.tradekorea.com/product-detai ... works.html -- I haven't tried to order any yet (haven't found a good way to do that), but in case anyone is interested in what some of the hanji papers available look like, it's probably a decent primer. Looks heavier than unryu (40 vs. 25 gsm), more on a par with what I see in lokta papers... I like the more solid colors than unryu, though (though unryu is fine for many things!)...
