My first attempt with some white paper (70cmx70cm or so) caused the neck area to rip due to thickness.

What paper would other people recommend? The diagram says metallic paper but I have a feeling it will rip too since metallic paper aren't particularly strong either.

(The paper I tried is so thick that the chook can't even stand up - at the moment it looks like a butterflied chook with head, tail and feet, ready to be barbequed the portugese way

I haven't folded the model, but maybe try something handmade, like Hanji or Kozo, or Nepalese Lokata, and wet fold it. You might have better luck, since the fibers in these papers are much stronger.

I've used a thin lokta on mine, no worries at all :



The sheet must've been some 25gr/m^2 - it's MC'ed of course.

i used a metre sqaure of thin brown paper and the neck didn't rip at all
only thing wrong is that i didn't wetfold it so the legs keep coming apart and the model flattens itself
i am going to wetfold it though now and hope it stays upright
i will post a picture of it when i am done

here is my fold i hammered nails through a bit of wood then taped the feet to them to make it stand up



you will need to use quite thick paper or very thin paper but a small sheet

I hope to try this one out soon...

sadly i have yet to find any paper of that size in australia (or that thin! I did see some quite thin japanese kozo but they were very expensive, and there are no ribbed kraft paper in australia that i know of).....oh well.....will have to wait until my next overseas trip, or save up for a piece of that thin kozo
