This is more me venting than anything, but why is the gallery section all cluttered up? When someone posts a new model, they post it on their Flickr, their personal gallery here, and What have you folded lately?

I don't mind people posting on What have you folded lately?, in fact, I enjoy browsing through that thread whenever I can. It obviously makes sense for people to post on their Flickr accounts, that's their private gallery. Why then do people also have gallery of me topics?

Maybe it's just me being stodgy, but I am genuinely scratching my head. Anybody around here more insightful?

to be honest, i don't mind. it actually helps me browse through the galleries/flickr accounts of artists that i admire. i confess i have a little hobby: i like to download the photos from some of the galleries and use them as the background for my iphone. though if i were to be perfectly honest my favorite folders do not maintain their own galleries here.

good we have a gallery section thing about all those postings beeing posted in the general section.

but I think the slouchiness of all the members regarding to the titles is rather annoying. I mean, why does one tilte the topic "beavers gallery" if the main section is already galleries? if the members would only put their name in the title it would be way better.
But I seldom to never enter other peoples shrines... but I do look into the what have your folded lately topic frequently. so I don't really care much about the galleries section.

I do post only on the flickr and in my gallery, cause if somebody don't want to see it, they don't have to

i am one of the evil, multiposting here and there.
with posting different pictures of the same model to different galleries the amount of debt may decrease - at least a little ...
imagine, there's a design you're interested in, too - wouldn't you appreciate some more than just one picture of it?

I think a better way of organizing the gallery section would be by subject. If there were topics for birds, rodents, fish, etc, it would help the multipostings and make topics that would be helpful to look through. I'm not saying we need a radical change RIGHT NOW... My suggestion is to just stop posting in the personal galleries on this forum and start with the subject topics, adding to them as people make models.

I like to see what individual folders do at a glance, personal galleries are great... If you don't like them, don't browse them ?

I think you missed one of my points, Gachepapier. Everybody seems to have TWO personal galleries: one here and one on their Flickr, or on Blogspot, or another similar site. If you wanted to see more of what they fold, why not go there, where everything is a little neater and more organized?

Actually, I did miss that point.

OTOH, I do like to use my thread here to announce my new blog posts, where I can format things nicely / in the way I like. Also, I have more confidence in bigger site hosts, such as blogger, than in the forum here, which depends on the good will of far fewer people than made available by a company with huge ressources like google. Don't get me wrong, this is no criticism of the forum here, but I've seen a few places of roughly the same "size" where I had my habits on the Interwebs come and go...

All in all, I find the two to be complementary, the forum adding the social glue to a folding community that is not available in that form on blogs...

Maybe if people bothered to comment when someone posts something cool, or at least something they worked hard on, people wouldn't feel the need to post it up in two threads here, flickr, deviantart, facebook....

yes! i almost never get any comments so i just dont post models here or on flickr anymore. more people should comment otherwise there is no reason. why try hard on something if no one cares?

i post on both places and my pictures on flicker get a reasonable amount of comments but here not much gets said

i get most my comments on facebook.

Does this mean that if the forum didn't exist, you wouldn't make origami?

I must just be different than everybody else because I don't make origami for fame and fortune. I would hope people fold to challenge themselves and try to better their skills. Just because people don't always reply, "Nice fold!" after every post doesn't mean that people don't appreciate the time and effort you've put into making your piece.

I think the 'folded lately' topic is more inspiring than anything else. Looking over its pieces of art makes me more inspired to fold something, keeping my motivation going for the hobby. Heck, it's just fascinating that it's 634 pages long and still going strong. If you feel that you don't need to post there, so be it, but simply being part of a collaboration that big is a phenomenal concept and a forum achievement.
