Origami ebooks

Post by the modern einstein »

Just a general question- are there any books for origami diagrams in ebook form, and what is the size of the market that they curtail (how many are on sale)? I would like to have easy access to diagrams, any time, any place on my phone, and access to ebooks would be a great hand (I practically destroy my origami books when I take them anywhere, and I need a more practical method of folding origami on the go).

J.C. Nolan's Creating Origami was an ebook 5 - 10 years ago, but I don't have a reference, and don't know if it is still available.

I think there are roughly 1000 people on this forum, so I'd estimate that the market for any random origami book would range from 500 to 5000 at an extreme. I'd guess more like 500 on average per title.

What is an "ebook" to you? I do not consider a pdf file of the original book an ebook. To me, an ebook is a file and diagrams created specifically to be read be ereader software like Kindle, iBooks, or Nook. This file is either an epub or mobi file.

The problem with pdf files is that the diagrams are not easily read when using smaller devices, like phones or Kindles. The original diagrams need to be reformatted and layed out differently, in order to have a good user experience on these devices.

Another consideration, is that most of the pdf files out there floating around of origami books are illegal, based on copyright law.

If you want to support origami authors and encourage them to publish "ebooks", then start buying some of the ones available through respectable venues, like Amazon, Apple, and Barnes and Noble.

As you can see from following the link in my signature, I publish origami ebooks.

Looks like Creating Origami is no longer there, but if you search for "creating origami" you will find some other books of interest.

All the books from the ,,Passion Origami'' series can be bought as e-books on Nicolas Terry's origami-shop.
