Ok so I've trying to fold with wrapping now. But I starting to hate it because:
1. It is really heavy
2. It dose not really want to fold
3. The color comes off every time I fold it.

Any comments or suggestions on what to do?

I don't know, I've never folded with wrapping paper before. But I suppose if you crease well and buy a large sheet, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. What types of things are you trying to fold?

Maybe your paper is too thick. I've folded a few models from wrapping paper. Its good for easy and some intermediate models esp boxes. Its available in sparkling colours and holograph effects, so it gives a nice look. Just do not try something that has multiple layers or is complex.

you really should stay away from cheap paper, you allready gave the most important reasons cheap paper does not hold creases, tears easily and sometime the colour wears off. However I got great paper e.g. from butlers (I don't if it exists outside of germany) , but it did cost double as much as cheap paper.

I found that it isn't that great for complex models mostly because it doesn't hold its shape, so all the layers are constantly coming unfolded and you can't shape it, so it remains really modular and kind of abstract. But the paper I have folded with hasn't been too thick.

Well, there are a million kinds of wrapping paper. They will all fold rather differently as well. I haven't personally had luck with stateside wrapping paper, but maybe I just haven't tried the right kind. I have seen many other people have success with other kinds of wrapping paper, though (read: VOG!).
