Origami Design Secrets Dilemma

Post by Black~Terror »

Ok, so I noticed there are two versions of Origami Design Secrets, with the second version coming out somewhere on August.

I have yet to get ODS, but I don't know whether I should buy the book now, or wait until the second edition comes out.

The first ODS is cheaper overall and is readily accessible, but the second ODS has more things in it. Is it a good idea to wait around 1-1/2 months just to obtain a better version of a book? I mean, I would like to have the book now, but I don't know if the second edition is worth the wait.

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere... I tried to search it but all the stuff about ODS is generally about his models...

I would wait. From Lang's descriptions of the changes one of the major ones is the color scheme of the diagrams. The original has a dark brown with black lines that lacks contrast and can be difficult to read at times (my only real complaint about the book BTW), the new version is supposed to be better in this regard, and IMO worth waiting for if true.
Not to mention more stuff.

Hm. I think I will wait for the second version...

Because I found out that my local library is able to connect to other libraries to see if they have ODS, and they are able to send it to me in a week or so. I'm pretty sure at least one library has ODS, so I think I'll wait a week and check out the first edition, and then if I want the book, I would wait for August for the second edition. =)

Thanks for your opinion!

I would wait to get the second version, mainly because it says how to fold the koi with scales in it, which isn't really said in the first version (he gives you all the information but you have to figure it out yourself, which I was unable to do)

defintiely wait for the scond version....its almost here...patience.....and it will be well worth the wait with new diagrams and chapters on hex pleating....the only thing im worried about is he said hed be removing the section with all the math. if you like that kind of thing(which intrigues me) than you might want to pick up an original copy first so you can have that content. than get the second one. either way....they are both well worth owning. a serious must have for any serious folder.

I am getting both, having already bought the first edition, and most of Lang's other books, the second edition is not to be missed out on. In Terms of waiting or not, I would hold out until the price drops reasonably.
