Im going to start a thread that's goes like this, I'm going to call out complex model and I want people to tell what paper and tecnequies to use and some advice. Other can also call out model to. Here's mine Robert lang praying mantis, origami insects 2

A large sheet of green tissue foil. There's a lot of sinking in and out, so be prepared for that.


Eagle, from License to Fold

Brown double tissue paper or tissue foil , make presses folds in pre creasing and tissue foil dosnt work for me it's to thick.

Ogami paper (http://www.papercircle.org/paper-shop/what-is-ogami) from the Paper Circle in Nelsonville Ohio. Thin, strong and wet-foldable. Best wet-folding paper there is, and you can buy it in person at CenterFold, the midwest Origami convention happening in Columbus Ohio August 12-14. I hope you'll forgive the plug.

me personally, steingar, i don't mind the plug at all.

what i do mind is that they keep pushing back their opening date.

I used reynolds parchment baking paper . Turned out quite nice.

FYI, Tissue foil is awful for sinks. Especially in-and-out. The paper edges aren't going to sit flush.

And Bethnor...I talked to them again at the OUSA Convention...supposedly the store is ready, and just needs to be turned active. Supposedly it will be up this Friday, but I'll believe it when I see it.

We've never pushed back the date. Indeed, it got pushed up from last year. If you're talking about Ogami, they did have some technical issues a while back (the paper was wet foldable, but didn't work for uber complex models). I saw them in New York and even got some of the new paper. Its really good stuff. Best wet foldable paper you can get, unless Richard Alexander is still selling his paper, which is equally good with a different pallet.

Hmmm. I usually don't wet-fold, but I've been meaning to give it a try.

I pretty much default to double tissue MC for just about everything.
Double tissue ends up being .002" thick.
I've been experimenting with 8lb tracing paper mc'd to tissue paper which ends up being .0025" thick. More difficult to make because the tracing paper doesn't take the mc as quickly or easily as the tissue paper, but the paper folds really nicely and is much tougher. It holds creases better, and doesn't spring back nearly as much. I haven't folded anything complex with it yet, but I'll get around to it soon enough.

The 8lb tracing paper mc'd would probably be something good for the mantis, the single sheet is .0015" thick and I think it's just a tough as the double tissue. Seems like it would hold a crease pretty well but it definitely feels different. You can buy it in 36" wide rolls (I paid $17 for a 3' x 50yd roll of the stuff). Which means you don't have to join multiple sheets together if you are single layering it and need something big...

I wouldn't fold the eagle with anything thicker than double tissue, and nothing smaller than about an 18" square. The feet would get difficult I'd think...

i used 15-15 homemade tissue foil for the praying mantis.....worked great, even with all the silly sinks...just be patient and dont force things....as for the balrog...im gonna say ogami or origamido simply because of the complex nature of box pleating and the thick layers....brian chans one sheet rose......
i folded one from tissue foil and it was great.....one sheet rose

Tissue foil with out a doubt. Phoenix 3.5 satoshi kamiya ( I got 5 sheets of unryu that's 25 gsm thick but I don't to use it.

I used tracing paper for the phoenix, and it worked alright. You can get big roles of 24" tracing papers for pretty cheap. Just be careful though, it doesn't reverse well. Unryu would probably be best however.

And for the one sheet rose, I'd use red tissue with MC.
