Analysing CPs

This is Brian Chan's Hissing Roach CP.

Image

If you notice, there's a sausage-like shape in the middle, which upon further observation i realised could fit 3 smaller circles perfectly.

Image

Does it mean that these 3 circles (corresponding to 3 flaps) are part of the actual flap configuration?

Why is it then represented as a sausage shape rather than 3 smaller circles in the CP then? Is there any significance to this? Someone please shed some light here :?

Looks like a river I guess? I haven't encountered such a sausage before though : P

It looks like a bunch of thick layers that are sunk in such a way as to form body segments. Brian could have formed additional points (wings?), this cockroach doesn't have them so...

in that case, that is such a waste of paper...

Not really. Brian used that flap to give volume to the roach's abdomen, which is by far the largest and thickest part of the insect.

I've asked before, but never got around to it myself... has anyone folded this model?

The "sausage" is part of the circle packing.
