Blood type is a trait that most Japanese consider related to personalities, and I find this topic interesting.

I have AB blood. What are yours?

Bood type is a matter of genetics and biochemistry. The blood type alleles encode enzymes that build carbohydrate chains on blood cells by which the immune system carries out self recognition. The locus, designated I, has three alleles. A confers an A type carbohydrate, while B confers a B-type carbohydrate. A and B are codominant, allowing the existence of AB individuals. i is recessive, such that O-type individuals are ii. O type individuals lack either A or B specific carbohydrate, and thus is non reactive. Thus Type O people are universal donors, while type AB are universal receptors.

The Rhesus factor is controlled by another gene. + is dominant to -.

It's interesting that when you get blood taken, it is comparatively rare for them to worry about type. I believe that Type matters most during transfusions, transplants, and pregnancy ?

There may be some older [malarial?] drugs that reacted with race and blood type.

“The Gene for ABO blood type is located on the q leg of chromosome number 9, around band 34. So the address for your blood type gene is 9q34. Here’s an intriguing link that suggests a relationship between blood type and the brain. The gene for the enzyme dopamine beta hydroxylase (DBH), which converts dopamine to noradrenaline, is located right at 9q34. It’s literally sitting on top of the gene for blood type. This has vast implications for the association between blood type and stress, mental health, and even personality characteristics.”

From chapter 1 of the book "Live Right for Your Type."

Hadn't actually realized that, but yeah, there is a gene for personality quite literally linked to that of blood type.
