Re: Favorite books
I really like the series Harry Potter. The books are better then the movies. But I only read 5 books because our library closed and I forgot most of the series. Now I'm reading The Hardy Boys mystery series. Its an awsome exciting series. Plus its full of cliffhangers(this does not mean being stuck on a cliff).

Re: Favorite books
I'm interested in philosophy but whenever I try to read a philosophy book my head starts to hurt

Re: Favorite books
Same- that's why
A: i don't read philosophy books- i like it fitted into fiction
B: i like sattire- it disguises or (to be metaphorical) dilutes the philosophy in fiction- just look at the hunger games- take away the killing, surviving, futurism and cospiracy and most of what you're left with is very philosophical- (if it's on TV, does that make it ok?- one of the hunger games' many pieces of sattire, some of the less obvious in the story but most important to real modern people.) i could go on for ages!

Re: Favorite books
Hmm... I don't really think of the hunger games as philosophy or satire (I'm fairly sure it's spelled with only one t, not to be a grammar nazi). Mainly I think of satire as something making fun of something else. Have you ever seen MAD on tv? I'd say that's satire

Re: Favorite books
No, satire is the use of humour, irony, exaggeration or ridicule to point out bad points of people and things.
To show you how this works, i'll put it into the brilliant example of the hunger games.
At one point, Catniss says to someone "if no one watched the hunger games, there wouldn't be any". People watch children killing each other and enjoy it. The satirical side is that we think. 'Would we watch that and enjoy it, just because it's on TV?' satire makes people think and that's why i like it.

Re: Favorite books
^ Bartimaeus Cycle is good, at least judging from the first 3--I haven't read the 4th one.

Re: Favorite books
I'm writing a book, but it isn't finished yet so i suppose it doesn't count. The problem is that i want to write a trilogy, and i don't know where to cut off the first to start the second. Definitely no where near where i am now and it won't be for years with my current level of input.

Re: Favorite books
THE BARTIMAEUS CYCLE HAS A 4TH ONE ???!!!!
I didn't know, living in France.
I also liked the Fablehaven series, Inheritance, LOR, HP, and Pierre Bottero's books.
I LOVE the Michael Scott books (The Alchemyst).
I've also read a sci-fi novel mentioning origami: the ET makes origami which comes to life, but a kid steals it, folds a pajarita and a plane. The pajarita becomes a giant mutant chicken, which crashes the plane into a school. Not my favorite,(that's a side plot) but memorable.

Has anyone here seen the film made of Eragon? It's awful isn't it? If you think otherwise then please say why but i think it is dreadful.
