Speckled Bear

Post by HankSimon »

Quentin: I like the detail - claws and shaping - on the Bear.

Does this use the same base as your Black Bear ?

I think it'd be cool to see a single picture with the evolution of various bear models from Polar Bear to the current Speckled.

Thanx,
Hank

Hi Hank
Thank you
Yes, the Black Bear was developed from the Polar Bear to add the claws. The Grizzly Bear was a refinement of the proportions and geometry of the Black Bear. The Spectacled Bear has the same underlying cp as the Grizzly, but with extra edge grafts to get the colour-changed detail in the face and also to hide the white that would have been visible in the back paws. Also to add the "false thumb" in the front paws.
Hope that makes sense?

Go to YouTube, search for channel from a guy called "tadashimori". He made a video teaching this very same rose.

Interesting. The video shows how to collapse the base using the crease pattern. I think showing the full folding sequence and some tips on how to finish the rose would be quite helpful, so I think another video on the rose might be appreciated. I also think I couldn't squeeze it into 10 minutes. ;)

In Memory of the Crooked Giraffe from the Santa Barbara Zoo

Image

A friend of mine asked me to make her a giraffe. But not just any giraffe. She specified that it must have a crooked neck, like the giraffe we used to have at the Santa Barbara Zoo. She died about a year and a half ago.

This is really just Hideo Komatsu's Giraffe, with some minor modifications on the neck. It did take quite a few tries to get the neck just right, and my friend did criticize some of my drafts.

Folded from a 35 cm square of Tant paper.

Tesserassic Palm by myself folded from a rectangle (approx. 18.5cm x 32 cm) of double tissue paper.

Some pictures of the folding progress can be found on my flickr photostream.

I'm really proud of this design since it turned out exactly like I wanted it :)
So long and keep folding ^_^

I've folded Ben Muller's Iguana. Folded with double tissue paper...it took ages to fold and shape, and I'm still not totally happy with the head though.

And so you should be - I really like the paper choice and how the same triangles manage to look like bark on the trunk and leaves in the canopy, very clever and inventive. And it really lloks like a palm tree, with even the underhang of the branches correct - excellent.

Iguana, Cat, Eagle and, particularly, crooked giraffe all nice too.
