@Pixion and anyone else who is interested:
THe rose is a modification of the original kawasaki rose not the new one (aka the diagonal one). They look like this:

It's kinda hard to describe what i've done... Instead of the normal collapse fold (which is just 45 degrees i think), you make it less steep (I'm guessing 26 degrees) and that will make the rose tighter and narrow.
I can draw up a simple diagram of some sort... Or would i need the permission of the original folder? (the gift of gifts)
I would also like to add that this rose looks different in real life. I just chose a nice angle and good lighting etc to get the effect...

Thanks for these pointers. Is it the Kawasaki rose (the non diagonal one) diagrammed in Origami for the Connoisseur?
I think I know what you mean with the less steep collapse, but if you have some photos or a simple sketch that would be great!
Regarding copyright, I think that should be o.k. (referencing the original author and perhaps the one that did the modification).

What have I folded lately?

HA! I figured out how to post a picture! lol
I made this last night. I'm happy to say this is the first thing EVER that is a free-style original work. I have been dipping into learning about tessellations. After playing around with the basic square tessellation, this mask popped out at me.
I used an 18" square of vellum paper. I will NOT be using that kind of paper for a mask in the future... I don't think it was the best medium.
The nose is a bit overworked, one spot around the temple is not symmetrical, and I have NO IDEA how I did it!
Over all, I am glad another origami door has opened in my mind and I am still learning every day.
Any and all feedback is welcome. It may be best to post feedback in a PM instead of in here to keep on the topic. Thank you for looking!
What did the Origami Artist say to the paper?
Don't be a square.

Polygon Study by Andrew Hudson folded by me from eight different Polygons cut from Transparent paper. Unfortunately the paper wasn't very cooperative for photographing. I think this is an interesting technique. All Polygons have the same number of iterations.

Edit:
As a by-product of this series I folded a lid with fitting box, each from one square of paper.
