Money Origami

Post by Gerardo »

I created the following model yesterday; I made it with a Colombian bank note. I need help from you guys to assess it, OK? Here's the model:

Image

1. Can you please tell me what name would you give it and why?

2. Can you tell me if you consider this a satisfactory model or if it looks more like just a doodle?

Thanks in advance guys! I appreciate your answers :).

That's one awesome lid origami_8! Would you teach me how to fold it? There's something very Egiptian with that box lid!

1. Got my mind on my money and my money on my mind. (Some kind of rap quote. Although I can't remember where it is from. )
2 Looks like a finished model to me. Maybe take another picture with a less dark background.

I folded the model again, this time with a bank note from United States. I gotta ask and I really hope you guys answer me: Compared to my prior fold, how well do you consider that this one expresses the same concept? Please be truthful :).

Now, about your comments :)...

AxolotlBottle, thanks for your answers! Could you please explain to me why did you think of that name? I get the 20 thousand pesos, but I am REALLY curious about what are you seeing in the model to think about the loan :D. This are exactly the kind of things I wanted to learn from you guys when I asked those to questions.

roodborst, that's great to hear. I found the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0G9T5Bnjlc

In your opinion, why do you think a brighter background would improve the picture? To be truthful I thought a strong constrast was the best choice.

I think the model folded of the Colombian bank note and the American dollar are both quite interesting due to all the faces having different expressions it makes them all very cool. I'm curious what they would look like with even more types of money.

as for the name I had joked about it was a Reference to a quote from a politician But since this forum is for Origami, not politics ill just leave it as that.

The rap quote should be from a song by snoop dogg actually, after a doing a quick search myself. For the dollar, Maybe make the balloon around the five a bit larger. Hard too explain but this one looks less the speechballoon you see in comics then the first one. Still it a really funny and original idea and design. You could do this with from all over the world.

As this is going way off topic, I split it into a new topic.

@Gerardo: OT, I plan to draw a diagram, but it will take a while.

AxolotlBottle & roodborst, thanks for all the feedback! I've been folding the model with the 5 $US bills trying to get the proportions right. I'll show you when I get it.

origami_8, sorry about that it wasn't my intention but I get what you mean about going off topic. Can't wait to fold your lid.

Brimstone, thanks for sharing that picture! Did you meet Michael Shannon in person?

Hey guys! All this bank note creating is for Mini Neo's current challenge. You're all invited to participate if you wanna create a new model. The goal is to fold a flat bank note model to keep in your wallet or purse as a tip for waiters or a hidden bank note for emergencies. They can also be flat up to the last step, so you can pull it out of the wallet and give them volume in a second before you give it to the waitress for example. You know?

I think this time I did it, hope you think so to. Here's the fold:

Image

I was using toy banknotes before but they were too small and the paper was all saggy like newsprint. To fold it better I had to get a real $5 US banknote. I was hoping not to add small folds to be model but I had to add a very small swivel fold in order to reduce the balloon's tail :(.
