Ermmm... one entry you mean...

Here's my second entry for the month

KIRIN

My rendition of the Kirin is different from Kamiya's as I based it on a different picture.

This is probably a stupid question, but I want to make sure my model will count before I fold it a second time (its truly a pain to fold)
It seems like all the examples are from a long time ago, or from mythology. Is it okay if I fold something from modern Japanese culture?

That's why I was asking the same thing, are you talking about kaiju (Godzilla, Gamera, Mothra, Destoroyah etc)?

No, its not a monster or anything, its actually a specific person I chose to fold in order to represent a sub-culture in Japan

The only snag I can see is in the title -- "Folding Japan - legend and myth"

As long as you can link to that, it should be fine.

I'm sure anyone would be happy to (myself included), but perhaps we should leave that to the Mods.

It's only the 19th of the month, sure there will be some additional entries. Satsukawa you can show your model but it will be out of contest.

My entry will be up this weekend if everything goes well, so I can guarantee that there will at least be something in 3rd place :D

My initial idea for an entry will not be finished. First of all I don't have a lot of time and secondly I still don't have the proper insight in designing. I might try something more simple though and keep the initial idea for the future.

I finally got a chance to read up on some of the Japanese Mythical Creatures and of course, I tried to opt for the easiest possible thing to design.
My first attempt was based off the description I read:

Yuki-Onna - Appears as a beautiful maiden wearing all white, or with white skin. She appears during snowy nights or during the full moon, and manifests as a white vapour that blows through the cracks of the door. She sucks the life out of the sleeping through her breath giving the impression that they froze to death.

Attempt 1:

There, you can see the white snow and the all-white maiden!

However, seeing as I based it off a description only and not an image, here's attempt 2:

I used this image to help me (although I had to change the hair):

Judge(s) - the decision to take me seriously is up to you ^_^

Moon rabbit (tsuki no usagi)
According to Japanese mythology, there is a rabbit who sits on the moon pounding mochi with a mortar and pestle.

Here he is, albeit without his mochi.

P.S. This is my first design, if that wasn't already obvious
