Time for something fishy...

Longhorn beetle. Folded from a right angle triangle. Basically, half a fish-base, with the two long points forming the antennae, and box pleating to for the legs. The short fish-base flap has been turned into half a bird base, to form the thorax and wing cases. And there is a bit of wrapping involved.

And another one. Here is a winged scarab from an equilateral triangle. This uses (mostly) a polygon structure to form the wings and body. The abdominal tip and the two wing case flaps come from an equilateral triangle polygon in the middle of the crease pattern. Both my entries are folded from fold backed tissue paper, with no cuts.

I thought I might run out of time on this one with how little folding time I've had recently.

My first attempt (which is also my first attempt at designing anything from non-rectangular paper too): some squid from equilateral triangles.


Left one from 21cm tissue foil, right one from 15cm foil.

The eyes are perhaps a bit large...I remembered having seen some squid species with very big eyes once in the past, but it seems most have smaller eyes that don't stick out as much.

Scorpion, from an equilateral triangle. The 60 degree subdivision are quite interesting. I might continue to design from triangles.

Take the "GEODOME", do a little more folding and shaping (OK well a lot), turn the paper over and
This is what I was really going for.

I'm not quite finished yet - I need to make the porportiion of the balls smaller so that the rack can be more 3d (simple box fold). I think I will make the balls white and the rack wood tone - if I can find the paper. A little neater folding would also help !

You will have to settle for this now - I can't get the improvements done for this contest.

That paper being used for the Weevil has a interesting pattern. Could you tell us more about it?

Yes, that is really a frog. This paper is wrapping paper, rather thin and robust. It is like some sort of a tracing paper for pencil but thicker and less transparent. We've bought it by the occasion in a toyshop two years ago. The origin of the paper was unknown for shop-girls. We've bought all remnant.

Here's my 'Abstract Pegasus' made from an isosceles right triangle. My goal with this model was to make a recognizable Pegasus that evoked the simple, abstract forms of traditional models like the crane and pajarita.





Also, I've got one more model that I'm desperately rushing to get done by tomorrow... I've managed to fold a rather unphotogenic version of it but I think I can do better (fingers crossed).
