monthly folding challenge : JULY 2012

The subject is : liquids - water, beer, petrol, acid rain, you name it !

The model must show some sort of liquid, a colour change is welcome but not obligatory.
The model must be from a single uncut sheet, the original shape of the sheet must be convex.

This month's judge is snowblue.
As a further constraint to the judge : you must name your favourite three models and rank them.

Convex paper? I always use paper that is flat, neither concave or convex.

The shape must be convex, not the sheet. That means a convex polygon(all angles smaller than 180 degrees).

Ah, okay, now I get it.
I tend to stick to squares and regular hexagons for most of my work anyway, so it's all good.

Yes, of course, I'm referring to the shape of the sheet as it's flat. A disk or a drop, etc would also be allowable :) ...

Are we allowed to enter more than once? I've got a few different ideas I'd like to explore for this theme.

Anyway, here we go, entry number one, Splash!
A splash as from an object being dropped into water.
Folded from a square of 15cm sides.

Is the model supposed to be the liquid itself, or like its container (i.e. mug, can, etc)?

I think the model itself needs to represent something liquid.

This looks like an interesting challenge; I'll enter if I can think of anything.

My entry shall be this water elemental. I hope the rules allow it.

Wow! That's great! I like how you made the feet (I think that's what those columns are).

The rules say the model must be made from one sheet. You've got one sheet for the model, and a second for the scenery. I'd say that should still fit within the rules.

I've got another entry if that's allowable. It's a good theme and I've got a few different ideas for it.
This time I managed to get a colour change in there too.

This is a broken fire hydrant with water fountaining out of the top of it.
I didn't have any paper that was blue on one side and red on the other, so I used the nearest that I had, which was pink and blue, then digitally altered the hue of the photograph to give the result I wanted.
I hope that's allowable for the challenge. If not, I can upload the original pink and blue photos instead.
Folded from one square 15cm x 15cm pink on one side and blue on the other.

"liquid" is a really interesting topic. Well, here's mine:
Tea Time!

I'm more impressed on how well I got the picture taken rather than the origami itself. lol
