monthly folding challenge: Nov 2012

Post by sinubuj »

Hello,

November challenge is: "Fold something into a book or magazine". But do not cut out the page from the book or magazine. (One edge of the Paper is not folded.)

Image

RULES:
1. You can use a single bookpage or more bookpages to fold something in the book.
2. No CUTTING or gluing.
3. You must design and fold the model this month.
4. You may submit as many entries as you want, but only one will be judged.

October winner 'akugami' will judge this month's challenge.

Oooooh, excellent topic. I've been meaning to try this. Hopefully the inspiration bug will bite this month.

What a great idea! The boat looks awesome! I don't have any books that I really want to fold though...

Sticking with your theme of boats and water here is my first attempt at folding something from a magazine. Magazine paper is one of the worst mediums I have ever used for origami. I made this model up on the spot so there is no way I can refold it. I might try and make something else later on. For a first attempt I think it turned out satisfactory, So here is my attack of the kraken model from 1 uncut magazine. It uses many pages from the magazine. Hope you like it :D

I originally wanted to do a bookworm sticking out of the book but as you essentially can only get the difference between the diagonal of the page and the height of the book to stick out, I couldn't get it to work...

Here's my entry, a plesiosaur folded from a book about paleontology (Fossil Revolution by Douglas Palmer). I selected this book from a small group of similarly themed contenders because it featured some cool, outdated reconstructions of plesiosaurs. The images also appeared with two pages between them which meant I could show them both as the model takes two pages to make (one for the body & flippers and one for the head & neck).

Here's my submission. I wanted to recreate a small bridge over a creek. Folded out of a catalog I had laying around, I used 4 pages for the bridge sections, 1 for the creek, and 4 for surrounding landscape/road.

I decided to try folding something like Dominik's book folds. It's the Phantom of the Opera's mask rendered in a book that features an unmasked Phantom on the cover.

i'm sorry, dominic, that there were just these few participations to your challenge. the topic is indeed very special and the main problem seems to be finding an idea. some people did and the winner is JUSTON. yes, once more ... of course there are other good posts but your phantom mask is the most impressive to me. so you'll be the judge of the december challenge and you'll have to think about a nice topic for the very first challenge of the year 2013.
