Hello everyone!

I thought I'd bring a bit of one of my other hobbies to this month's challenge, so the theme for the August Challenge will be "Heraldry".

There's a whole world of possibilites for design there, such as:
- an animal or monster in an heraldic posture,
- a distinctive inanimate heraldic charge (like a fleur-de-lys or one of the many heraldic crosses),
- a tesselation representing an heraldic field division,
- a full shield with a coat of arms on it (fictional or real world),
- a helmet with an heraldic crest,
- an heraldic badge (for example, the Tudor Rose),
- a full heraldic achievement (shield, supporters, helmet, crest),
- a representation of a Japanese mon.

Also try a Google image search for 'heraldry' to get pages of inspiration...

Rules:
-Any regular convex polygon allowed (e.g. square, hexagon, octagon)
-No cutting, no pasting
-Multiple sheets allowed, as long as they're all the same shape
-MC shaping is allowed
-You can submit as many models as you want

Edg will be the judge for this challenge, and will choose the theme for September.

Something like that would be perfectly on theme.

I don't even get what this"Heraldry" means. Even though I searched up from dictionary, there are so many meanings and even though I googled it, the pictures I found was all different in meanings. Can you please state the meaning simple as possible..?

And what is 'Heraldic posture'? There are no exact definition of that kind of posture..so are you saying that any posture is ok?

@Greencube07: the system by which coats of arms and other armorial bearings are devised, described, and regulated.
If you need any meaning, just search in googlde, -Write word here- definition.

This is gonna be really hard for me but I'll try my best.

Or in one sentence: Heraldry is the art to create, read and own a coat of arms.

There are some standard heraldic postures that animals can be in that you don't really find in everyday life. In the examples I gave above, the heraldic lion is in the posture 'rampant' (rearing up balancing on 1 leg), and the eagle is in the posture 'displayed' (front view, wings spread, head turned to the side).

Other heraldic postures are 'passant' (for a quadruped, standing on 3 legs with one front leg raised, like the lions on Englands coat-of-arms), 'segreant' (kind of like rampant, but for winged monsters like gryphons and dragons), 'haurient' and 'naiant' (for fish and similar sea creatures).

Other options would include leaving the animals behind and doing something more geometric, or something inspired by your home country or a favourite country's coat of arms.

After last months failure to get into the top 3, I've been folding like crazy for this month. This is my best piece so far:
Heraldic Rising Avian and Swan Boat Ride


It's a Helderic Rising Avian based on yagowe's bird postures link. The second picture shows the model standing on its own.

But to stand a fighting chance this month, when you lie my model down it turns into a Swan Boat Ride which you get at theme parks, from this perspective I admit it doesn't fit the theme, however, you do get 2 models for the price of one!

In general I'd say corporate logos don't fit the theme, unless they are heraldic in their own right (such as Cadillac, Porsche, The Hudsons Bay Company, various universities or colleges, etc.).

An ancient tale of woe.

Let’s get right to the heart of my problem. I broke my wrist, needing an operation to install a plate and pins, and will be in a cast for about six weeks. My folding will be quite limited now. See picture:

The challenge. I heard about a challenge to fold something from heraldry. My family (on my grandmothers side) can be traced back to the “Macquarie Clan” in Scottland and there is a Clan coat of arms. I made a very rough fold for the challenge before breaking my wrist. I did not use good paper and brutalized the fold to determine what dimensions I would need for the final version. It doesn’t look like I will be able to finish this fold until after the deadline.

So please excuse my rough draft attempt. I promos a much better version in about 2 months.
