Monthly Folding Challenge: September 2014

This months topic is dragons...yeah, I know there are plenty of origami dragons about, but seriously, who doesn't like dragons?
To make things more interesting, here are the rules:

NOT from a square! Any other regular convex polygon. Multiple sheets ok.
No cuts

Hoping to see some inventive creations!

Ha ha, well, I've always felt the one square only rule might put some of folders off; modular folders, for example, or those with less design experience (myself included )
Of course, such constraints are often desirable...necessity is the mother of invention, as they say.

Eep! I don't think I've ever actually designed anything not from a square...
I think I'll end up going for a silver rectangle if I get around to this

How do people suggest subjects or these contests?

If I understand it correctly "regular convex sheet/sheets" excludes rectangles.
So you would have to go with equilateral triangle, pentagon, hexagon, ..., or circle.

Sorry, should have said polygon not sheet? didn't think that would exclude rectangles, but to be honest I just copied the term from another post on here ( with a quick search to check I kind of knew what I was saying )
I guess I should have left it as just not from a square.

@Edg: Whether you say polygon or sheet doesn't make any difference, rectangles (excluding squares) are no regular convex objects. Actually I think that would make the challenge kinda funny. But of course, you make the rules, so if you want to include rectangles it is up to you to change the Rules.

Thanks for pointing this out, origami_8, it took a little while but I understand now ( its the "regular" bit that excludes rectangles, right?)

Oh man, I cant wait to see a dragon from a hexagon

Okay okay, it is no dragon, but at least it is from a hexagon and it has dragon in its name...
While playing around with a hexagon that I folded and unfolded quite a bit, I came upon this dragonfly. Given that it is just a draft, it doesn't look as clean as it could, but I still like the result, so I decided to post it here to remember everyone to bring in their entries

I was wondering what the reference point is on square to make it a hexagon? I tried making thirds and then folding the 4 corners. But that wasn't right. The I used eights on the diagonals but that wasn't accurate. Is there an easy way to find the reference point? I hope this made sense and someone can help me!

Usefull! But after looking at it I realised I've trying to fold a octagon instead of a hexagon. Achieved by folding the four corners of a square inward. I need the reference for the corners so all 8 sides are the same lenght.

Make a preliminary base and squash all 4 sides. Then fold up the four corners from point to point. When you leave the corners folded but unfold the base, you end up with a regular octagon.
