I've always wanted to see a challenge with this topic, and now I get to create one.

The topic is Animals that should exist but don't.
Create your own mythical creature, and then fold a model of it.

RULES:
-One uncut square
-MC allowed for shaping
-No existing mythical creatures (i.e., dragons, unicorns, etc.)

The deadline will be May 31, and Sebl will judge. Have fun!

So..it's ok as long as it isn't included in the general term of mythical creatures? :)

Eric vigier aka madfolder is really good at this. Check his works here https://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&source=w ... SMfAbVDXkQ for some inspiration. Although maybe he is more combing different animals together. If can think of something I'll join this months challenge.

That's pretty much the idea. Combine two or more creatures into your own original animal. Examples could be an elephantelope or a pandaardvark, etc. :)

You may have heard the raucous squawking of the Trumpeter Swan but have you ever hear the melodious musings of the Mellophonium Mallard?
Neither have I.

ImageCoelorhinypus by roodborst078, on Flickr

The Coelorhinypus lives in the shallow waters in the ponds in the African Savannah. Although it feeds on plants, it scares the hell out of drinking animals by jumping from the water and hitting them in de face with it's two horns. Because of these fish the white rhinoceros has almost become extinct. The white rhino male tends to drown in the ponds when they mistake the Coelorhinypus for a female white rhino and try to mate with them.

Great challenge, if I got another idea I might make another entry.

I started to design a bat/bird thing... and then I found out they were real.

Quadra-fin hydro-foil dolphin

This distant relative of the dolphin evolved with a blow-hole near its tail fin. When threatened, it gulps a lot of air, angles the long side fins downward an inward, the expels gas out the blowhole. It moves with unbelievable speed as it hydroplanes.
It the “Quadra-fin Hydro-foil dolphin”
It always leaves predators - “Foiled again”

Well, here's the StarFish. I had hoped to have time to do more than this rough draft of the concept, but alas, we're already at the end of the month.

The stars are raised via embossing. A more developed use of the technique can be seen here: https://flic.kr/p/spFgDC.

The StarFish's skin is embedded with fallen stars. When the StarFish activates the stars in its skin, the flash of blinding light stuns all nearby prey and predators. When the stars are inactive, they can be seen as raised areas of the StarFish's skin.

ok it's time !
but sometime it's really hard to choose and it's harder when there is only few models. it was a vreat subject why no more models ? :(
so here is my choice:

third place: Starfish by Foldtastic

second place: Quadra-fin hydro-foil dolphin by Firstfold

first place: Coelorhinypus by Roodborst
in fact in my humble opinion this model is the more representative for the subject

congratulation Roodborst you will be judge for next month and choose the subject for july challenge
