Monthly Folding Challenge: September 2015

Post by yellerdude »

Alrighty then

The theme for September will be WEAPONS
An incredibly broad topic if you think about it.

Edit: Judging by some of the controversy around this topic, let me rephrase this a bit. The challenge is to produce a model based on any interpretation of the idea of weapons. Although the concept of violence is what often first comes to mind, alternative interpretations of the topic could be the use of words, music, or even ideas as weapons.

As usual, the rules are:
No cuts, no glue, use one square of any size

Go forth and create!

in weird times like these we're faced with nowadays we're obviously in need of everything but weapons. just my humble opinion. a symbol for empathy or hope would have been better - something to heal or repair, not to damage.

I'm all with akugami. Weapons seem a very bad subject to me.

After the tragedy that happened in Charleston, SC USA, the murder of the 9 from Mother Emanuel, other people wanted revenge, but the families showed grace, compassion, empathy, and love, pointing the way to healing and hope .... I don't know how to represent that in Origami, but their weapons of grace were more powerful than any weapons of hate and destruction.

Personally, I despise the violence being wrought around the world now and throughout history, but have no problem with this topic. Not saying that the depiction of certain things wouldn't trouble me but, in this instance, I think it's better to see what people come up with then have a debate than just say don't go there.

Welp, i certainly didn't intend to pick such a sensitive subject. If people want, ill remake the thread with a different topic.

Truth be told, I don't see a problem with the topic. It's not the weapons that cause problems, it's the things people do with them.
And origami weapons can't do anything more than give someone a paper cut in any case.

It takes more than a gun to pull a trigger.

If you dislike weapons, then surely a pro-peace, anti-weapon model would be still relevant to the topic. I don't see why we should get so political about it when the challenge is to come up with an origami design, not to advocate killing or war.

For how much the origami ninja star has been around? Is a weapon isn't it? Ever heard a complain about it?

The Bow is a weapon and is used for Olympics discipline.

Fire weapons (guns) are not the only weapons around.

I reworded the topic to be more inclusive of alternative interpretations of the topic. Given the debate so far, I'm kinda curious to see how this pans out.

Hopefully the anti-weapons posters won't hate me for this one...it's only paper.

Also, I designed this model prior to September. Does the entry still qualify?

As far as I understand, models have to be designed specifically for the challenge. But you're allowed to make a new version of an existing design.

EDIT: Here's my first entry.

Balto is right, the design has to either be new or an edited version of a previous design.

That being said, I really like your mushroom cloud. Compliments my Fat Man (also a previous model):

It could probably use better shaping, but... ImageThe Human Mind by Baltorigamist, on Flickr
