The new shape is more wind-up crane, more whale crane and less helicopter crane. :D So I would say, yes, better. :)

After viewing the progression from helicopter to whale to windup Crane, I just couldn’t resist – presenting
Dizzy, the spinning crane.

Guys, I won't be able to present my entry to the challenge before the 31st. Edg, PLEASE don't judge the challenge before I present it.

Trolls? oh my... :D but yes, definitely better!

I decided to go for a classic czechoslovakian car, because it's close to home and probably my favourite car ever in terms of looks - Tatra T87

My favourite part is the central tailfin.

The real thing had an air-cooled V8 in the back and three headlights in the front.

It's also got suicide doors in the front and regular doors in the back. how cool is that?

Despite being a limousine used by polititians, two reckless dudes have successfully taken it on expeditions to Africa and South America, which is probably the main reason why the car earned such a good name for itself and even international fame.

It has been voted as the best collector's car of 2010 by The New York Times

Hi Gerardo, sorry I missed your earlier post. I don't really have a set idea of what I'm looking for, so no help there I'm afraid! ;-)
Don't worry, I won't be judging until the morning of the 1st. Looking forward to seeing your entry!

Spring Fling Drag Racer
(pun very much intended)

It doesn't just sit there and look cool - it "springs" into action

OK, I have them both folded. Sorry it took me so long. I was trying to find the right paper for the one with more details. I ended up folding it four times after my draft: in triple tissue paper, metallic paper, contact paper, and common colored paper. I ended up being satisfied only with the one in common paper. It's 9pm here; I'll share the media files for both models in a couple of hours. I hope that's OK.

Lever

Demonstration of Lever: https://www.facebook.com/neorigami2/vid ... 8127861379

It's one of the six simple machines identified by Renaissance scientists, it can amplify a force like weight for example. I designed it using a grid. I folded it in a 27 x 27 cm (10 5/8 x 10 5/8 in) velvety paper so the objects didn't slide down. Many action origami models use kinematics, which are based on the interconnection of different levers. In that sense, origami owes a great deal to levers ;).

Balance

And this is a picture of the model before collapsing. It isn't showing every crease from every fold in the model:

Just like every balance is based on the lever, my design is a variation of my origami lever. That means it's also designed using a grid, in this case folded from a 34 x 34 cm (13 3/8 x 13 3/8 in) square. Most of its bars are twelveths but some are even forty-eighths. In that case should I call it a 12 x 12 grid or a 48 x 48 grid?

During most of the month I was trying to create the balance, not the lever per se. I was getting frustrated trying to find a way to create the model from a single square sheet. Finally, just last week, I thought about adding a graft around the middle of the paper. That way I ended up with a good amount of paper to keep on folding (a lever or a balance) and the base underneath. Don't leave without checking out the demonstration links ;).

I should mention that both models include some form of extra weight inside their bases.

Tough to decide this month, lots of cool and ingenious entries, but in the end it had to be Gerardo's balance. Great job!

why not judging a second and a third place?

I find it hard enough to pick one winner, let alone runners up! I'll have a think :)

I won a monthly challenge !

I had a lot of fun (although I gotta say it wasn't fun to sacrifice so many hours of sleep last night :P).

I loved Wind-Up Crane! Is it possible to give the key a color change? That would be so awersome! Firstfold, you're a mad inventor! I can't believe you created so many, and SO original models, in such little time. Nepafarius, randomra, and origamipete: it was an honor to compete with you guys.

Thanks Edg for your kind words and I REALLY REALLY liked the subject BM-origami-design. Thanks ;).

I feel like if I had a trophy and was giving a speech... haha.

I don't have any big enough duo paper, but I believe the key already is a different color by default, due to the way it's made

Guys, you know what models would've been cool for this challenge? Models that evoke Da Vinci's flying machines. What do you think?

For example:

How big would you need the paper to be? I do hope you find at least big paper that's white in one side and colored in the other. Your model makes it worth it.

Does that mean that you watched the videos :)?
