And Gerardo, I had a Copernican revolution with my model! Probably just needed to set it down for a few days. All I need to do now is get the measurements down and make the paper I need.

Here's mine! I wanted to make it unique so I designed...
A Fossilized Alien! (Wouldn't that be cool, though? Man sets foot on a different planet for the first time - and finds a FOSSILIZED ALIEN!!! Front page news! Everyone in shock! And I predicted it!!)

It was folded from one 15 inch square of painted tissue foil. And of course, the design is pure.

For this month's challenge, I designed a Visitor from the book Communion by Whitley Strieber.



If you're familiar with Communion (or even just it's very famous cover) you'll no doubt notice that I attempted to emulate the composition and coloration of the dust jacket art. I also ran the image through the Prisma app to give it a more painterly look.

The model is folded from a 7" square of lizard skin embossed paper, using the reverse side of the paper to represent the pale, flesh tone of the face and the shiny, black side to represent the eyes.

Though my depiction of a Visitor strays slightly from the one on the cover, it does so purposefully. I've attempted to to capture a few nuances and associations made in Communion and it's followups (sequels?) that aren't evident from the cover art alone.

The shape of the face and it's features are meant to be evocative of animals such as owls, mantises, and lizards. The texture of the skin is meant to imply wrinkles and age, as well as further reinforce the association with lizards. The shiny, bubble-like texture on the eyes also reinforces associations with the compound eyes of insects.

What about folding an hexagon from a square, and then folding your model from it, instead of folding an hexagon from a square, cutting unwanted part to get an hexagon and folding your model from it?

OK guys, the deadline is coming up. Today and tomorrow are the last two days of September. Use the time you have to finish and send your model before its too late .

The other problem I see is that it's actually an earthly virus. Nepafarius explains which in a couple of threads in the forum.

Yeah it was a play on the idea of 'alien,' since viruses are foreign beings inside other lifeforms.

I can't fold another one anyway, out of paper and it's raining so I can't make more.
