Monthly Design Challenge December 2017

Post by NeverCeaseToCrease »

Hello everybody!

We desperately need ore participation in these design challenges. In september, only one person entered and won by default. In October, only two people entered. And now, November, nobody entered.

Because of this, I will use (what I think) is the most popular thing to design in origami: INSECTS.

Or, if since we are in dire need of more people, we will have a dual topic this month. In addition to insects, you may design a DRAGON.

Better yet, find a clever way to design both! (Dragonfly, anyone? )

Honestly, you can enter whatever you want (except for NSFW stuff). You have a lenient judge this month! No rules regarding paper size, paper shape, glue, cuts, modulars, whatever you like.

One more thing you might want to know: I might ask non-folders to be a jury if it gets close. Therefore, don't worry as much about complexity, but rather shaping.

Oh and by the way, be sure to encourage other folders you know to participate!

Good luck! And go, START DESIGNING, RIGHT NOW!!!! :D :D :D

I would have entered in the November challenge, except I had no idea that the topic had changed... Too late now though... :(
Anyways, do you have a person who will be judging?
I'll probably go and add my IOIO design challenge to the last month post later today, just so there is at least SOMETHING for November.

Tony Koppers, don't do it. The topic in the November chalenge wasn't changed. It was suggested by someone different from ther topic creator to be changed but that doesn't mean it was in fact changed.

We can't let anarchy rule here.

Good point, Brimstone. I'll refrain from adding designs that don't pertain to the topic...
I should probably wait to put up IOIO pictures from round II until the round is over with anyway...

Either way, its still too bad no one participated last month...

I apologize for the confusion last month. But we can't let "pornogami" rule here either.

Oh yes, one more thing I forgot.

It seems like a problem that people wait to the last day to submit their entry. I know for me at least, that sometimes I have the model and photo done early but still choose to post it on the last day.

So this month, having your model posted before others may increase your chances of winning... =P~
Of course, this is simply an incentive; I'm not trying to turn this into a race.

Here is a dragon I designed, not specifically made for the challenge - I only saw this challenge just now - but I did design it this month, so here we go:

If we can submit everything...
Here's my design for the 2017 International Origami Internet-Olympiad which was designed beginning of this month. It's a monster, so at least somewhat close to a dragon :)

Do non-insect arthropods (arachnids, etc.) count? Just wondering. ;D

As i read it, the topic is "insect" or "dragon" or "insect+dragon" or "whatever you want" ...

I apologize for the confusion.

This month's topic is "insect" and "dragon," two topics at the same time in the hopes of getting more participation than previous months. The thing about a "dragonfly" was just a pun, but you may try to combine them if you want.

The "whatever you want" part was because you can spin anything as an insect or dragon. It was inevitable that somebody would post something random (like a Bat in Office Supplies).

So yes, an insect or dragon would be ideal, but Mike Wonzawski will certainly be accepted. As I said before about spinning the topic; Mike is a monster, and dragons are considered monsters, so therefore Mike is a dragon! ;)

Balto, I thought people normally like insects better but I suppose you can design an arachnid if you want.

First of all, great job to both Jek and Merlyn! They both look great!

Moving on though; my entry for this month is a dragon and rider. I'm not sure if I should be calling it a dragon, since it doesn't have legs; it might be more accurate to call it a serpent. Either way, I think it counts as a dragon:
