An Origami challenge-
fold the lotus model below using a square.


my 1st attempt to get the flaps by tesselation:


will work on it for more petals and larger ones.

Nice, who is the author? and is there by any chance a CP?

Im not sure who is the author because i found the picture while surfing the internet. therefore chances of getting its CP/diagram is also very small.Moreover,that model might me multi-pieced,so i decided to try recreating it from 1 piece of paper =)

I remember coming across this picture. The lotus is made from separate pieces of boats (not sure if it's a variation or the traditional boat). I came across this diagram before, it was from like... a personal Korean site, but that is all I know. Unfortunately, I don't have the link to the site. It was so long ago. Hope this helps.

Also wanted to clarify: I never attempted to make it, so I don't know any specific information about the diagram. I just remember how it looked "easy" to make it in comparison to how complicated / awesome it looks.

cannot remember the diagrams exactly but one thing is sure: every leaf (or maybe two) is(/are) made of one single piece of paper, otherwise i would have been more impressed...^^

Also, I think you can get that from one piece by a simple modification of Meguro's 145-point Sea Urchin.

Thanks for the information. I contacted the folder and asked him about the lotus, here is a vague translation of what I got in response:

The model is made from 78 parts, 77 of them are equal folded (from rectangular paper) for the petals and one square is folded to build the tip. Working your way through rings of seven modules, the first and second row are knitted or glued together (like doing a kusudama), while all remaining units will be tucked in without the need of glue.
It is a traditional model probably from Thailand, where it is folded from funeral money. The finished blossoms will be set on fire while driving on a river.
The model on the picture is folded from "Bananenpapier" (banana paper?).
Official diagrams aren´t existing as far as he knows. He learnt the model a few years ago on an Origami Germany Convention from an english man and has only made some rough sketches of whom he doesn´t know where they are at the moment.
