That looks like Garuda, king of the birds, who carries Lord Vishnu (Wisnu in Indonesia, I think) into battle. Cool topic!

i'm always intriqued by how one would go about figuring out an origami model for that. So many major and minor details to overcome. I will definately give it a try.

of course, there are many details, too many that you´re not able to fold.
i will not fold all the details. just the bigger ones, like the stripes of the clothes and the fingers with the claws, and only use pleat folds for the wings...not every single flap.

IIRC, someone did a multi-piece version of this years ago. The photo was in an old NOA (Nippon Origami Association) magazine, and it was based on a painted version of Garuda (white skin, with red, yellow, green, and black feathers & ornaments). If I can find it (don't hold your breath), I'll post a photo.

Hey, that's pretty neat. Somehow the colours remind me of a cross between a pineapple and chrysanthemum... :D

Thanks for posting it, Joe. Is there any information on who came up with it? And are there any diag...just kidding! :P
