Monthly Folding Challenge: March 2012

Post by topsu »

Hi fellow folders, it is the time for a new monthly folding challenge. This one will be special.

The theme for the challenge will be "useful and astonishing". Sound familiar?

This monthly challenge will be a part of the inter-forum challenge started up by Gerardo. The same challenge is held as an official monthly challenge in several other forums. The idea is to compete in something that breaks the bounds of a single forum.

This is still a challenge also for the English forum only - a winner will be picked and he/she will choose the winner of the next challenge and so on. The change is that you also get a shot at winning the inter-forum challenge.

Rules:

The model has to have a function in real life. It can be anything from an instrument to a can opener. The function has to be demonstrated some way.
Cuts and glue are not allowed, but any shape/number of paper(s) is allowed. Please include the shape/number of the paper(s) in your contribution.

The judge for this month's challenge will be Snowblue. Good luck, be brave and imaginative! : )

Thanks topsu :D!

Remember that astonishing is part of the challenge. So I would suggest thinking outside of the origami box ... or envelope for that matter.

Bear in mind that the whistle that actually works was the inspiration for the challenge:

And my Shadow Box was designed a week too early :(
This sort of thing has happened to me before, too, I forget the theme though. Still, I'm interested in what people will do with this theme.

Hey, I wanted to ask everyone: what do you think about me participating in this monthly challenge? I can't participate in the inter-forum challenge cause I created it, I don't know what you think about participating in this one. Then again I came up with the concept of the challenge so maybe it wouldn't be fair with the other participants.

What do you think?

Thanks to the both of you!

What about you Topsu. You're in charge so I think it should be your call. Since I was the one that suggested you the topic maybe it wouldn't be right for me to be participating in the challenge.

What do you think :)?

We seem to have a shortage in entries so I think you should be allowed to enter. I think we'll be good with just the judge and me not entering.

I present to you the model I just finished creating: FIREPLACE BELLOWS

Image

Image

When it's folded the right way, paper can help light a fire like any other bellows. I actually show you this in THIS VIDEO. I folded it with a single 5' 8'' X 2' 3'' rectangle.

Hope you like it :)
