I've got a quick question:
I bought some wall paper adhesive powder in my local art store (?!). Nothing is really specified about it, except it's cold-water-soluble (recommended to be mixed with cold water), non-toxic (otherwise it would be written on it according to law) and when used as wall adhesive, no absorbent materials may be present implying an MC-like ability to get absorbed. Furthermore it has a seal of approvement from an art association.

However as I wrote, nothing is specified, and some searches on the internet tells me it's actually reinforced starch (most likely Carboxymethylated). I intend to use it as size. Is there anything I should watch out for in particular using Carboxymethylated starch?

I would just follow the instructions and dilute the glue as needed. It seems like it should work. Starch glues arent going to be as good ad MC, but not by much...I think.

So, to synopsize before I attempt this:

- to size a single sheet of unryu or to size and bond multiple sheets of tissue, use MC

- to make tissue foil, use PVA or spray adhesive

If I am sizing a single sheet of unryu is it better to lay the MC down and place the paper on top or to paint the MC over the sheet (or both)?

You have got the right idea. As for sixing single sheets, I find it is easier to lay the paper down first, and then paint on the MC. Though I dilute my MC to speed up this process. To make up for the thinned MC I usually do a few coats to preference.

Often times with unryu it is best to put the mc down first, then mc the top of it. This will allow the sheet to pull off of the glass easier.

Also, with sheets like unryu that don't have a fiber grain, it stops the sheet from getting wavy as it dries.

Hi, I'm new in the forum and new with MC. I bought MC as a white powder in a arts store and i was told to dilute it in hot water. I was trying to create a double tissue but for some reason my MC will not glue the two sheets together. I know that my viscosity is similar to that of an egg wight. Is there something I'm missing?

As an update: this worked well. I am using a pre-mixed wallpaper paste that I am not diluting. I painted some MC on the plexiglass and rolled the tissue out using a piece of dowel. Not perfect, but the best I've done so far and good enough.

In a thread here somewhere people have talked about adhering tissue to tracing paper. Anyone done that? Is MC the right thing or should I go with spray adhesive. Tracing paper seems to wrinkle right away with the slightest moisture, so I'm guessing the latter unless there's some cool technique I don't know about!

I'm wondering this too. I have some large tracing paper that I'd like to add tissue to.

Is there a trick to making DUO paper out of lokta without the colors bleeding?

I tried to MC the worst possible color combination twice last night- black and white. the white sheet turned black as night.

any suggestions?

I gave solvite a try and the paper got stuck to the glass so i got hold of AURO 389 Wallpaper Paste which is pure MC which works great
