Stencil is a word I wouldn't know to use for creating tissue foil, searching for "tissue foil instructions" yielded many pages of results. Using "tissue and foil and instructions" yielded less, but didn't have the thread I was looking for. Just making a statement that the search function isn't perfect, even if off by one word (in this case "make", which completely skipped my mind) you may miss what you're looking.
I think a new forum sub section (one that is locked from new topics, but allows posting into threads, where approved threads can be moved by moderators) would be in order, to ease searching for important topics, and cut down on a few new threads. Afterall, this forum has been in operation for about 6 years now and we have a great many helpful threads that rarely come to light. (As another note, a help section for model steps might also be useful)

well after geting some tissure paper spray glue tinfoil i set to work.....
I made a Acrosinus Longimanus from a plain pice of black tissue he turned out ok but a bit floppy here and there lol.
I then made my first ever bit of tissue foil and made the terantula with it.
Im not sure what i prefer yet lol. Im finding the tissure foil to be hard to fold in places due to it dosnt sink in or pull out with out causing loads of trouble with cresses etc
but on a couple of brighter notes: It do hold the final model in place much better than with just plain tissue or paper.
Also it allowed me to use a smaller 10inch square to make the tarantuler rather than a very large 14 to 20 inch square of plain wraping paper that didnt fair to well.
...and its very cheap and easy to make in what ever colour combination you like....providing you can get the tissue
So for now the tissue foil gets my vote!!
Kind regards
Steve

i finally collected required metarials and made tissue foil with help of some videos but i dissapointed. i found it very thick and heavy.i had troubles with reversing creases and sinking.it is quite unuseful for me.i made double tissue with same spray glue and i am satisfied for now.it is quite thin and easy to fold.i don't really understand why people love tissue foil that much.

-People like to use tissue foil because when the models are finished they dont unfold like some other papers.ismetdai wrote:i finally collected required metarials and made tissue foil with help of some videos but i dissapointed. i found it very thick and heavy.i had troubles with reversing creases and sinking.it is quite unuseful for me.i made double tissue with same spray glue and i am satisfied for now.it is quite thin and easy to fold.i don't really understand why people love tissue foil that much.
[edit] I was just wondering which type of paper would be better to fold one of kamiya's models like the phoenix or ancient dragon.
Origami Lions, tigers, and dragons OH MY!
@SpecialOrigami
For the first try of either of those models, I would recommend either double tissue, at least 50 cm square, or wrapping paper at 70 cm square.
After that, try some 10 inch kami
As for my favorite paper, definetly double tissue. Its thin and easy to fold, the creases are visible and reverse very easily, and it stays in place just fine with a little MC at the end. The downsides? One side will be shiny (which is okay for a beetle or amphibian, but usually looks bad), and it always turns out really wrinkly when I make it.

I recently picked up some tracing paper(cut to 23cmx23cm), but I am wanting to work on some more complex models, such as cooper's hawk, so I want to get some larger paper probably like 40cm. Can anyone recommend something I can pick up at a common store like walmart that would work well for such a model. There is a crafts store near by, is it common that they would hold large origami paper? or is there something there I could get to work with?
Also, one thing I love about origami, is the color schemes the artists create when designing a model. however, this tracing paper is quite bland. Is there a good way to color paper that doesn't involve colored pencils?
Thanks,
Tim

Michael Lafosse has a method explained in his books of coloring paper with acrylic paints-I think he mixes the paint with methylcellulose and some solvent and paints it onto the paper. Besides that, you could try tissue foil. Tissue foil is made by gluing sheets of tissue paper to aluminum foil with spray adhesive-with this paper you can entirely control what colors you want, although the paper has some limitations. There are many topics on the forum outlining how to make it-but make sure you get the cheap, thin 18" foil-it works best.
The craft store might have some good paper-check for better-quality stuff like lokta, hanji, washi, kozo/mulberry, etc. These papers often come in a variety of colors and are great for folding (wet-folding, specifically), but need to be sized with methylcellulose first. These papers can be back-coated to each other with MC to create different colors on a side.

Thanks Jonny! After I posted, I actually did some searching instead of being lazy. I made some foil paper today with tracing paper instead of tissue paper, It worked good. It was a little wrinkly because I wasn't working on the best table, but it was fine. I used white glue mixed in some water since I didnt have spray,. but it worked greater than i could have asked. I'm going to the store tomorrow, so I'm going to get some tissue paper, I cant wait.
