It seems like there's some sort of evolutionary progression many (most?) folders go through: begin with origami paper and plain (notebook, copy, etc.) paper, move to tissue foil and love it's tendency to produce models that DON'T spring apart with time, then move on to other media (e.g., MC'd tissue paper, unryu, etc.) and never go back to tissue foil. I haven't bothered to make a single sheet of tissue foil once I began using tissue and unryu. I'm not saying that the latter are suitable for everything, but I never realized how annoying tissue foil's tendency to wrinkle was, and how unforgiving it is, 'til I got away from it... Tissue foil seems to be cheaper and easier to make than buying unryu and finding MC, at least for many people, but...

Endreon, there seems to be this place in your area:

http://www.paper-source.com/
http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/pap ... index.html

The second address is their decorative paper section.

Thanks for the help, but do you know somewhere where I could buy big sheets of tissue foil in dollars?

perhaps you could clarify, endreon. no one sells tissue foil, per se. origami-shop sells what it calls "tissue-foil," but from what i understand, it is very far from tissue foil in the traditional sense.

Anyhow, who needs tissue foil when, as I've just discovered, kraft shaped with mc handles layers much better and produces a much cleaner result that tissue foil!

I just need some paper that stays together easily like foil, but in very big sheets.

having grown up in the DC area, i can tell you that i've never found a shop that sells what you're looking for. perhaps things have changed. you can try some of the stores listed here (understanding that it may have been some time since this list was updated):

http://www.origamisources.com/

i have been to most of those, at some point or another, but don't believe any of them carries what you are looking for. the paper source (assuming it is still open) probably does have hand-made papers, but it will need to be resized before you fold it.

most michael's and other arts & craft stores carry canson watercolor papers in 18" widths, which can be used for wetfolding. however it is not suitable for super complex origami. there was a time when you could purchase 25 cm aitoh brand japanese foil there, too, but those days are gone.

that said, it's much easier to get large sheets of japanese foil (35 cm) than it was in the past. unfortunately, the only way to do so is online. assuming i'm correct, i've gone through your flickr and seen what your problem may be... i can tell you that i've bought from kimscrane, paperjade, fineartstore, and origami-shop and have found them all to be very reliable. perhaps you could use that to reassure your parents and maybe they'll buy on their credit card.

I have a question about double MC paper. I have tried to make this paper several times out of some tissue paper I have, I got it from party city I think, it is white 50x50 cm. I use the MC from
http://www.amazon.com/Methyl-Cellulose- ... 332&sr=8-1

I have tried to make this paper several times, but the paper that comes out doesn't handle thick layers (such as boxpleated models, the latest I have tried is Jason Ku's Butterfly in Tanteidan Convention 15) well at all, the model cannot retain its shape, and the layers won't stay down at all. Also, when I try to fold it is often very hard to see the creases I have previously made. The other problem I run into is that even after cutting it into a square, the paper curls up a lot, even though I don't roll up the paper ever. Am I doing something incorrectly with the MC consistency/amount I use, or is it possible the tissue paper I use is a poor quality for origami? I use the same paper often for tissue foil, but wrinkles/crumples badly and too easily unless I make double tissue foil. A final note is that during folding, the folds are sharp and I can do sinks without much difficulty, at least easier than with tissue foil.
Please, add me on flickr and tell me what you think!

I think that i would have to say foil, for I, like many others folders was entranced by tissue foil for a bit until i started noticing its flaws, and now i am being much more creative with my paper choices, but foil has always been my favourite.

I just recently made tissue foil and tried to use it for Lang's tarantula. In the middle, my tissue separated from my foil, spoiling my day :( Do not buy Elmer's spray adhesive!
